Drive the wrong way down a packed highway. Skim bumpers for CLOSE calls, fire BOOST to smash through traffic, or FREEZE time and slip through the gaps. Runs last seconds. Most end in a fireball. Retry is one key, and the ATTEMPT counter in the sky keeps count.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“What's playable today is a solid foundation: the core driving, Highway and City modes, the Daily Challenge, and a first set of cars, upgrades and paint. Much of the game is still undecided. We want players involved now, while their feedback can still change it. That includes how hard the game should be, which modes and roads come next, how progression and unlocks should feel, and how it plays on PC with keyboard and controller. WRONG WAY BUDDY is hard on purpose, and thousands of real runs will show us where hard turns into unfair much better than internal testing can.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect about 6 to 12 months, depending on what players ask for and how development goes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to potentially add more roads and environments, more cars and paint options, and new challenge modes and weekly events. We also plan to tweak progression and difficulty based on player feedback, and to add more achievements and more languages. Which of these we build first, and what else gets added, will depend a lot on what the community tells us.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game demo is playable from start to finish of a run. It includes seven Highway roads, City mode, the Daily Challenge, a first roster of cars with upgrades and paint, Steam achievements, leaderboards and Cloud saves, and keyboard and controller support. Difficulty balance, progression pacing and the PC controls are still being tuned. Expect rough edges, missing features and significant changes between updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price gradually as we add content. Anything you buy during Early Access is yours to keep”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use the Steam discussions and our Discord to collect feedback and run polls on which features and content to build next. We'll post a public roadmap and update it as priorities change, and we'll publish patch notes as Steam events. Player feedback and the leaderboard data will shape the balance changes.”

About This Game

Every car on this highway is coming straight at you. That's the idea.

WRONG WAY BUDDY is an arcade driving game with one rule: go the wrong way. Weave through oncoming traffic, get close enough to swap paint, and try to last longer than last time. You probably won't. The game counts every attempt in giant letters in the sky.

How it plays

  • Steer left and right. That's most of it.
  • Pass a car close and the game calls it: CLOSE. Pass closer for REAL CLOSE, worth more than three times as much. Chain calls back to back to push the combo up to 5×.
  • Every point fills your BOOST meter. Fire it and you plough straight through traffic: SMASH, DOUBLE, TRIPLE, RAMPAGE.
  • Install FREEZE and hold to stop time. The traffic hangs in the air while you thread through it.
  • The sun goes down as you drive, and the traffic gets thicker and faster until night falls.
  • When you crash, one key puts you back on the road before the smoke clears.

Highway, City and a Daily Challenge

HIGHWAY is the main event, across seven roads: pine woods, a red rock canyon, the Riviera, an alpine pass, an ocean causeway, Kyoto in cherry blossom and the neon streets of Tokyo.

CITY has no brakes and a speedometer that only goes up. Hold a direction at a crossroads to take the turn. Driving in the oncoming lanes scores double, and the faster you go, the more the city melts into FEVER.

DAILY CHALLENGE puts everyone in the same car on the same traffic, with no upgrades. One day, one board, as many tries as you can stand.

75 cars, all earned by playing

55 cars are bought with Bucks, and Bucks only come from driving. The other 19 are earned through feats. No ads, no loot boxes and no real-money store.

Every car has four upgrades: Handling, Bucks, Boost and Freeze. Changed your mind? Refund a car's upgrades and get every Buck back. Then take it to the paint shop for body colour, accent, stripe and two decals.

Plenty to chase

  • Over 100 achievements, plus three new missions every day
  • A 21-track soundtrack, with bonus songs to unlock
  • One free revive per run, if you dare

Your first run will be short. So will your hundredth. The sky keeps count.
