About This Game

Project Nine Tails is a third-person action game rooted in Chinese mythology — a story not about a war, a king, or a dynasty, but about what survives all three.

You are the Nine Tails fox spirit. Not a demon. Not a goddess. Something older than either — a being of nine centuries of cultivation, sent across lifetimes by heaven's own hand to move history toward its appointed end.

You have worn many faces. Daji is only the most recent.

NINE LIVES. ONE FOX.
Each chapter of Project Nine Tails places you inside a different historical vessel — a different identity, a different era, a different mandate from the divine powers that have always found uses for what you are. You accumulate. The souls you have taken, the forms you have worn, the centuries of watching humans build and destroy — all of it is still inside you. None of it was supposed to be.

THE CURRENT CHAPTER — DAJI AND THE FALL OF SHANG
The goddess Nüwa sent you to possess the body of Daji and hasten the fall of the Shang dynasty. The mandate was precise: bewitch the king. Do not harm the people. You exceeded that mandate so thoroughly that heaven has sent someone to conclude you — Jiang Ziya, sage and fisherman, who fishes with a hookless rod three feet above the water's surface. He is not fishing for fish. He compiled the List of Investiture. Your name is not on it. Yet.

SOUL COLLECTION
You are not limited to the body you were given. Every significant soul you defeat carries residue — their face, their authority, their right to walk through doors that would otherwise be closed. Absorb them. Wear them. Nothing is permanent. Everything is useful.

THE QIANYUAN JIAN
Your sword carries the commission of the goddess who sent you. When you channel fox-fire through it, you are invoking an authority you have violated in every lifetime you have lived. The blade does not forget what you were supposed to be — even when you have.

JIANG ZIYA
He is not a boss. He is a recurring consequence. The Shen Gou — the divine hook — does not wound. It finds what is underneath your performance and pulls it to the surface. He will appear across multiple chapters of the game, always patient, always already waiting. He fished for forty years before a king worth serving found him. He can wait for you.

THE WEIGHT OF NINE CENTURIES
Project Nine Tails is a game about accumulation — what it means to carry nine hundred years of choices, mandates broken, lives consumed, and forms discarded. The fox remembers every face she has worn. The question the game asks is not whether she can survive this chapter. It is whether anything survives that long without becoming something heaven eventually has to deal with.

Based on 封神演义 (Fengshen Yanyi) and the broader tradition of Chinese fox spirit mythology.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Project Nine Tails contains the following mature content. Players who may be sensitive to any of the below are encouraged to read before purchasing.

Violence: The game contains combat violence including sword strikes, finishing moves, and enemy death animations. Enemies dissolve, fall, or collapse on death — there is no gore or dismemberment. Boss encounters include escalating combat intensity. One scripted sequence depicts a character being thrown and forcibly restrained by a supernatural fishing line.

Psychological and Narrative Darkness: The story draws directly from Fengshen Yanyi, a 16th-century Chinese classic that includes historical accounts of politically-motivated cruelty. The game references — but does not depict — the Paoluo, a torture device devised by Daji in the source text. This reference is made through dialogue and lore, not through visual gameplay sequences.

The player character is an entity that inhabits human bodies without consent, manipulates others through psychological means, and consumes the spiritual energy of defeated enemies. These themes of possession, identity loss, and involuntary transformation are central to the narrative.

Themes of Manipulation and Coercion: The Nine Tails' core abilities include assuming the appearance of other characters and deceiving NPCs into lowering their guard. These mechanics involve themes of deception, identity theft, and psychological manipulation. No sexual coercion or assault is depicted.

What This Game Does Not Contain
There are no depictions of sexual acts, nudity, or sexual assault. There is no drug or alcohol use. There is no self-harm content. Gore and dismemberment are absent from all combat systems and cutscenes.
