O tym DLC

"Sometimes just sitting with what you’re feeling,

without trying to fix it,

optimize it,

learn a lesson from it,

or somehow turn it into a productivity system,

reminds me that I’m actually a human being.

Not a number.

Not a machine.

Not a little productivity goblin trying to maximize output every second of the day.

Just a person.

Feeling something.

___________________

And I think that’s what YumeGirl slowly became for me.

A place where I could sit with those feelings for a little while.

A place for the songs, the memories, the arguments, the stupid jokes, the quiet moments, and all the tiny things

I didn’t want to lose.

___________________

I don’t really know what happens to all the things we once felt.

Maybe they fade.

Maybe they change.

Maybe one day they become a slightly ridiculous indie game made out of cardboard.

But for now,

I just wanted to give them somewhere to live.

And that somewhere became YumeGirl ♡"

YumeGirl Original Soundtrack ♡

I think YumeGirl started way before I realized I was making a "game".

It probably started with me trying to catch those tiny, fleeting feelings that somehow sneak into your capillaries before you even know what they are.

Which is, apparently, a very normal thing to build a little game around.

___________________

For almost two years, I had been writing little songs on my commute.

Sometimes it was something funny.

Sometimes it was a fight.

Sometimes it was a tiny moment that probably meant absolutely nothing to anyone else, but my brain decided:

Nope.
This one is important.
We’re keeping this forever.

___________________

Like all those times I told myself,

okay, this time I’m really leaving.

Very serious.
Very final.
Character development.

And then somehow I would end up running back to the exact same person again.

Excellent work.

___________________

Or the fights we had so many times that we basically developed our own relationship agent loop:

fight,
overthink,
soften,
make up,
repeat.

At some point, our argument loop had enough training data that I could basically predict the output.

Not healthy machine learning, perhaps.

But very efficient.

___________________

And then there were the quieter things.

Every time we looked into each other’s eyes and neither of us said anything.

Every time I leaned against you and felt the warmth of your skin.

All these tiny moments that last maybe a few seconds,

and then somehow live in your head rent-free for the next two years.

Love makes tiny feelings take up an unreasonable amount of space.

Things that would normally disappear in a second somehow refuse to leave.

___________________

So eventually, I had all these songs, all these memories, and all these feelings sitting around.

And I didn’t really know what to do with them.

I could have made an album.

That would have been sensible.

Unfortunately, I apparently decided that wasn’t complicated enough.

I wanted somewhere for those memories to actually live.

So I started making these tiny handmade worlds.

A beach we went to.

A room.

Little objects.

Cards.

Random things that probably look completely ordinary to everyone else, but somehow contain an alarming amount of emotional lore for me.

___________________

And then I thought…

What if you could actually walk through them?

What if you could play the songs,
touch the objects,
collect the cards,
and slowly piece together what happened?

And that became YumeGirl.

Which meant I now had to actually make a game.

A minor complication.

___________________

I made almost everything by myself, and honestly, making a game alone is incredibly lonely sometimes.

There were definitely nights where I would look at my screen and think:

Why am I spending hundreds of hours making a tiny cardboard universe about my feelings that maybe five people are going to play?

And then, naturally, I would continue for another six hours.

___________________

But I think that’s also why I wanted to finish it.

Because YumeGirl isn’t really just about a relationship.

I think every feeling deserves to be recorded.

And every feeling deserves to be cared for.

Even the messy ones.

Even the embarrassing ones.

Even the ones where, six months later, you still have absolutely no idea what was going on.

Especially those, probably.
