Turn your screenshots of Instagram, TikTok and YouTube posts and comments into a library of anime, manga, films and series. A local AI model reads the titles written in each screenshot and builds the library on your PC. Works fully offline by default; online dictionary updates are optional.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Picdex already does its main job: it reads the titles written in your screenshots, such as a post, a comment or a list that names an anime, a manga or a film, and files them into an offline library on your PC. We are releasing it in Early Access because real screenshot collections are far more varied than our own test set, which comes mostly from Instagram. Your reports of misread or missed titles are the most direct way for us to improve recognition, and your feedback will decide what we work on next.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“Roughly 5–6 months. Picdex already does its main job; we will use that time to make recognition more accurate on real screenshots, guided by your reports, and to fix the problems you run into. If the estimate changes, we will say so in a Steam announcement and update this answer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“These are plans, not promises. What we plan to work on:
- Better recognition, guided by the titles you report as misread or missed, including on screenshots from apps our tests cover less well.
- An optional Steam Workshop mode, off by default, for sharing title cards with other Picdex users. Without it, Picdex keeps working fully offline, exactly as it does now.
Whether each of these ships, and in what form, depends on technical checks and on your feedback. Plans may change during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Everything listed here works today:
- Picdex reads the titles written in your screenshots of posts and comments, such as a comment or a list that names an anime, a manga or a film, using an AI model that runs on your own PC. It reads words; it does not recognise a work from a drawing, a cover or a video frame. A frame with no caption is reported as having no title.
- On a separate test set of our own screenshots, mostly from Instagram, Picdex currently puts about 65% of the works they name under the right title in the right category, and we are working on raising that number. Matches it is unsure about wait in a review queue, where you accept, correct or skip them, and any decision it made can be changed. Your results may be better or worse, depending on your screenshots.
- Fully offline by default: no account, and your screenshots never leave your computer. One optional online feature, dictionary updates, stays off until you turn it on.
- Export of your library to an Excel file.
- Fully offline by default: no account, and your screenshots never leave your computer. Two optional online features, a manga lookup and dictionary updates, stay off until you turn them on.
- Ukrainian and English interface. Recognition also runs without a dedicated graphics card, much more slowly.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan to change the price when Picdex leaves Early Access. If that changes, we will announce it in advance in a Steam news post. All later updates are included at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Please use the Picdex discussion boards on Steam to report misread titles, bugs and ideas. Picdex does not send reports by itself, so a report contains only what you choose to post; Admin → "Collect diagnostics" writes a report file you can attach if you want to. We answer on the boards and describe what changed in a Steam news post with every update.”

About This Software

Your screenshots, turned into a library

You screenshot posts and comments on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube where people name anime, manga, films and series worth watching or reading. Then the folder grows, and you can no longer find anything in it. Picdex reads the titles written in each screenshot and builds a library on your PC: every title gets its own card, with the screenshots that name it. Picdex never connects to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube; it reads image files you already have.

What it does

  • Reads titles from screenshots — posts, comments, numbered lists, question-and-answer threads; one screenshot can name several titles. It reads the words written in the screenshot. It does not guess a work from artwork or a video frame, so a screenshot with no title written on it waits for you to name it
  • Builds the library for you — every title on its own card, sorted by category
  • Offline title dictionary — anime, light novels, films and series, with year, format and episodes filled in where the dictionary has them
  • You stay in control — confident matches are filed for you and marked as the app's own decision; anything it is unsure about waits in a review queue, and any decision can be changed
  • Search, filters, collections and Excel export — and from any title, back to the screenshots it came from
  • Duplicate detection — an exact copy of a screenshot is never added twice
  • Your files stay yours — Picdex works from its own copies and never moves, renames or changes the screenshots in your folders; the library is plain folders with its own database inside, and nothing goes in the registry

How it works

  1. Drag screenshots into the window, add a whole folder, or let Picdex watch a folder for new ones
  2. Press Start recognition: the built-in AI model reads the titles written in each screenshot, and Picdex looks them up in its offline dictionary
  3. Check what it was unsure about — accept, correct or skip, with the keyboard if you prefer
  4. Browse your library: every title with the screenshots that name it

How accurate it is

On a separate test set of our own screenshots, mostly from Instagram, Picdex puts about 65% of the works they name under the right title in the right category; some of them wait for your OK in the review queue. Your results depend on your screenshots: a post that hints at a title without writing it gives Picdex nothing to read. When Picdex is unsure, it asks you in the review queue — one click when the right title is among its suggestions, otherwise you type the name — and your fix stays. A title it filed on its own can be renamed, merged or moved to another category on its page. We are working on raising that number.

Fully offline, with an optional online mode

Offline by default. Recognition runs on your own PC with an AI model that ships with the app. There is no account, recognition needs no internet connection, and your screenshots never leave your computer.

Partial online mode, only if you turn it on. One extra stays off until you switch it on in the Network card on the Admin screen: downloading the latest anime title dictionary the manami project has published (for now, the same one Picdex ships).

What's in this release

Categories for anime, manga, manhwa, manhua, light novels, films and series. Ukrainian and English interface. The AI model comes with the app — no separate download.

A graphics card makes recognition far faster; without one, Picdex runs it on the processor, much more slowly.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Picdex runs a local AI model on your own PC to read the titles written in your screenshots. The model ships with the app, works offline and sends nothing off your computer. It creates no images, audio or video: for each screenshot it returns the title text it sees, a category from a fixed list and short remarks, which the app labels as the model's own words. The Picdex logo was made with the help of AI image-generation tools; the app icon and the store artwork are built from it.
