About this game

Build an army out of Chinese characters in 汉字过五关. Combine 关 and 羽 to form 关羽 (Guan Yu), or 枪 and 兵 to form 枪兵 (spearmen). Separate, swap, and upgrade your tiles to reshape your formation.

**Prepare your formation. Watch it fight.**

Place your troops in two rows of three. Plan around turn order, attack patterns, equipment, and abilities. Battles play out automatically after you commit your formation.

**Find a new path on each expedition.**

Choose between battles, elite enemies, events, recruitment, and rest stops. Spend gold and collect relics to develop your army. After a defeat, regroup and try the encounter again.

**Uncover the stories behind the gates.**

Unusual formations and battle outcomes can reveal clues, hidden encounters, and further gates. Higher Ordeal levels offer additional challenges after your expeditions.

**The Steam edition**

The Steam edition contains no rewarded ads and uses no energy to start expeditions. Xiliang: The Old Road is planned as a free, optional DLC. You choose whether its content joins your next expedition.

**Chinese characters are part of the game.**

The tiles, character combinations, and battlefield pieces remain in Chinese in every language. English explanatory text does not replace the characters used to play.
