When game dialogue, menus, or on-screen text are in an unfamiliar language, select an area and let HOT DOG recognize the text and display a translation. Keep translation tools close at hand for gaming and everyday reading.

Translate a selected screen area
Choose the area you want to read. View translations in a subtitle window or use an overlay to compare them with the original text.

Customize your reading experience
Adjust subtitle fonts, size, colors, and background transparency. Move the subtitle window and configure keyboard shortcuts to suit your setup.

Local offline translation
Once the local translation engine is ready, you can translate offline. In local mode, text recognition and translation run on your computer without an additional cloud translation account or API key.

Optional cloud translation
Configure external translation services with your own API key. Cloud features require an internet connection; fees, usage limits, and data handling depend on the provider.

Text, image, and document tools
Type text or open images and supported documents for translation, then copy or save the results.

Translate your replies

HOT DOG AI Translator uses local AI models to translate text entered by users or recognized from selected screen areas into the chosen language. Some bundled glossaries and reference translations were created with AI assistance. AI was also used to create or edit some Steam store artwork and promotional images. Users may optionally configure third-party services such as Google Gemini. When an external service is selected, text for translation is sent to that service for processing. AI recognition and translation may contain errors in wording or meaning; important results should be checked against the original text.

Connects to 3rd-Party Service for AI Content Generation: Local offline translation: MADLAD-400 3B (google/madlad400-3b-mt), running locally using CTranslate2 with INT8 quantization. Optional cloud services: Google Gemini API, Google Cloud Translation, and Microsoft Azure Translator.
