Build conveyor plants or set up the ready-made button press, and run them with your own PLC program – in the training PLC, with CODESYS or S7-PLCSIM Advanced. And learn to reach solutions with an AI: it helps you build and program, the plant shows honestly whether it works.

Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Baukiste is a practice ground for anyone who wants to learn to work with PLCs and get to know automation better – and a bridge to working with AI. Whether the devices, the handbook and the connection to real controllers truly help people learn only shows once people work with it. That's why you help decide where Baukiste goes during Early Access: whatever matters to you, such as a pneumatic diagram, you can suggest at any time.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About two years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“You help decide what comes next: your wishes from Discord and the Steam discussions shape the order. Current plans:
• more devices, sensors and stations for conveyor systems
• a pneumatic diagram
• safety technology
• sharing your own devices and plants via Steam Workshop
• the development area as a workshop: build your own devices, import models from other programs and export your own plants
• robots as devices
• more handbook chapters, up to larger projects
• VR support
The order may change. What we're working on is posted in the announcements and on Discord. Missing something? Let us know.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Conveyor plants built from belts, motors, sensors and stations with control cabinet and local control boxes; programming in the built-in training PLC, with CODESYS via Modbus TCP or with Siemens S7-PLCSIM Advanced; a handbook guides you to your first own program; devices as files and an AI interface that can be switched off; plus the button press as a ready-made plant to set up. Interface in German and English. Not included in the price: your own AI (helpful for building your own devices; own account with the AI provider). Not included: CODESYS, TIA Portal with PLCSIM Advanced, Blender (each helpful for your own controller or your own models); the built-in training PLC needs none of them.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The price will not change when we leave Early Access. Early supporters pay no more than later buyers and help decide what comes next through the Steam discussions and our Discord.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Every buyer has a say: on Discord (in the game under ☰ menu → Discord) and in the Steam discussions. That's where we collect bugs and wishes, say openly what we tackle next and why, and report on every update in the announcements. Have your own model or machine you'd like to bring into Baukiste and need help? Get in touch on Discord – we're happy to help.”

About This Game

You build the plant. Your program makes it run.

Baukiste is a training ground for PLC programming and industrial automation. You assemble conveyors, motors, sensors and stations into a plant, equip the control cabinet and local control boxes – and write the program that moves it all. The simulation only provides the hardware: an actuator moves something, a sensor reports something. What should happen is decided by your program alone.

A bridge between automation and AI

Baukiste is not only about learning PLC programming in ST and SCL. You also learn to reach solutions with an AI: describe your task, let it set up a plant, explain signals or suggest a program – and check in the running plant yourself whether it works. The simulation doesn't do the thinking for you; it only shows honestly what your program does. The AI is not included in the price and runs on your own account with the AI provider.

With a real controller – or the built-in one

  • Training PLC in the game: Structured Text (ST/SCL) right in the game, with live variables and starter examples.
  • CODESYS via Modbus TCP: the CODESYS development system is available free of charge; a ready-made project template is included.
  • Siemens via S7-PLCSIM Advanced: for anyone with TIA Portal and PLCSIM Advanced; a step-by-step guide is included.

Honest physics, not scenery

A metal sheet is bent into a tub, the tub fills with water, a workpiece only moves while the belt runs. Nothing is shortcut to true/false: if your program is wrong, you see it on the workpiece.

A ready-made plant: the button press

The mod menu holds a complete button press to set up: three conveyors, two suction grippers, a slide with two die positions, the press itself and two operator panels with mode selector, Start, Stop, Quit and emergency stop. It places raw parts on the belts via its own outputs, end positions and optical sensors report every step, and two pressing strokes turn sheet, paper, foil and back part into a finished button. Your program makes it run – the list of all signals with their addresses is included.

A handbook guides you

From your first conveyor and motor to your first own program and connecting a real PLC: the built-in handbook explains step by step what you are doing and why.

Devices are files – and an AI can help build

Every device is a description of signals, mounting points and a schematic symbol. You import device files in the game and share them. If you like, connect your own AI: the game tells it what it can do, and it builds new devices into the running plant. The AI interface is switched off by default and only reachable on your own computer. So a device of your own comes about in two ways: with your AI or by hand as a device file. The AI is not included in the price – it runs on your own account with the AI provider.

Development area – in development

In the development area you build your own devices: by hand from building blocks or with your AI, tested on a test rig and then kept in your library. This part is in development – it runs, but it is not finished yet. Devices built with AI need your own AI (not included in the price, own account with the AI provider); your own 3D models need Blender (not included).

Who it is for

For anyone interested in learning to work with PLCs and getting to know automation better – no plant in the basement required.

Developed with AI

Program code, handbook and documentation were created together with an AI. What gets built and what is technically correct is decided and checked by the developer.

Early Access

Baukiste is in Early Access. Everything described on this page is in the game.
Language: German and English.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Program code, 3D models, the handbook and documentation of this game were created together with an AI; what gets built and what is technically correct was decided and checked by the developer. During play an AI can build devices – but only an AI that you connect yourself: the game offers an interface for this (switched off by default, reachable only on your own computer) through which your AI creates devices as data (signal list, mounting points, schematic symbol). No external program code is loaded or executed. The game itself does not connect to any AI service; your AI is not included in the price and runs on your own account with the AI provider.
