About This Software

Know before you compress. Game Library Cleaner measures a sample of each game first and shows you the expected saving in GB as a forecast with a range. Then you decide. On our own test library the saving differed widely from game to game: small on modern games that ship pre-compressed assets, far higher on games that store their data uncompressed. The tool shows you the forecast range before it touches a file.

You can pause compression at any moment.

Nothing is patched, nothing is injected. Compression uses the file compression built into Windows 10 (the same feature behind compact.exe). File contents stay byte-for-byte identical; Windows decompresses them transparently when the game reads them. Folders of known anti-cheat components are skipped, and a game that is running or being updated by its launcher is left alone. If a game ever misbehaves, one click restores it.

One click restores. Every compressed folder can be returned to its original layout from inside the tool at any time.

Games that use DirectStorage are skipped by default. Compressed files lose the DirectStorage fast path on Windows 11, so the tool leaves them alone unless you override it.

Native Windows app, no browser engine.

Yes, Windows can compress files for free from the command line with compact.exe. This tool adds the measurement before you commit, the safety checks, and the one-click restore. If you only want compression and are comfortable with the command line, you do not need this tool.

Works completely offline. No telemetry, no account, no network connection.

Works with game libraries from Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG GALAXY, Ubisoft Connect, and EA app. Detects and lists Xbox app libraries read-only, because the Xbox app manages them itself.

Requirements: Windows 10 22H2, 64-bit, NTFS drives. Not supported on Steam Deck or SteamOS. Compatibility updates for at least 24 months after release.
