What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Filibustero is an ambitious little skeleton adventure, and there's a lot I'd like to experiment with.

Early Access lets me share the game while I continue developing its systems, expanding its world, and improving the overall experience based on player feedback.

Rather than developing everything behind closed doors, I'd like players to be part of the process as Filibustero grows into a bigger and stranger adventure.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I'm currently estimating around 1–2 years in Early Access, although this may change depending on development progress and player feedback. As a solo developer, I'd rather take the time needed to improve the game than rush toward an arbitrary deadline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to expand Filibustero's world and deepen its existing gameplay systems as well as the lore behind it.

This includes improving naval and land combat, expanding trade and economic activities, introducing more opportunities to interact with factions and governments, and adding more variety to towns, encounters, and exploration.

I also hope to improve the game's visuals, interface, and overall polish throughout development.

The goal is to make the Caribbean feel increasingly alive, unpredictable, and full of opportunities for a skeleton captain to get into trouble.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Filibustero is currently in active development, with several of its core gameplay systems implemented.

Players can explore a map of the Caribbean and Central America, travel between settlements, encounter other ships, and participate in different types of combat, including naval battles, ship boarding, and tactical land engagements.

The game also includes early versions of town interactions and other systems that I plan to expand during development.

Some mechanics are still experimental, and players should expect rough edges, limited content, and significant changes as development continues.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to offer Filibustero at a lower price during Early Access, with the possibility of increasing the price as the game grows and more content and features are introduced.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to share development updates, listen to player feedback, and use community suggestions to help guide improvements and future additions.

As a solo developer, I also document my development process through YouTube, where players can follow the game's progress, see new features being developed, and share their thoughts.

Bug reports, suggestions, and general feedback will be especially valuable throughout Early Access.”

About This Game

FILIBUSTERO

You're a skeleton. You have a ship. The Caribbean is your problem now.

Welcome to the 19th-century Caribbean! Everyone is a skeleton, governments are constantly getting into trouble, and there's plenty of opportunity for someone with a ship and bad judgment.

That's where you come in!

In Filibustero, you're a skeleton captain free to explore the Caribbean and Central America, make your fortune, pick fights, and generally interfere with things that probably don't concern you.

A Whole Caribbean to Get Lost In

Sail between islands, visit towns, explore the mainland, and see what trouble you can find along the way.

Set Sail, Start Fights

Command your ship in naval combat, board enemy vessels, and fight your way through encounters with other unfortunate skeletons.

Prefer fighting on land? Lead your crew into tactical battles, where positioning, terrain, and a sufficient number of armed skeletons might make all the difference.

Make a Living!

Trade goods, interact with other captains, visit ports, and look for ways to make some money.

You might become a successful merchant. You might become a notorious troublemaker. You might just get lost somewhere off the coast of Honduras.

Politics and Influence

The Caribbean is full of rival governments, ambitious leaders, military expeditions, and weird characters.

Inspired by the turbulent history of nineteenth-century Central America and the Caribbean, Filibustero takes place in an alternate world where history has taken a rather unusual turn.

Your Adventure, Your Bad Decisions

There's no single correct way to make your fortune. Sail wherever you please, choose your fights, and discover what kind of captain you want to be!

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Filibustero features stylized cartoon violence involving skeleton characters, including firearms, melee combat, naval battles, and military engagements.

Combat may include dismemberment, decapitation, blood effects, and executions. The game also explores themes of warfare, political conflict, imprisonment, and death.

Despite its humorous presentation, some violent scenes may not be suitable for all audiences.
