About This Game

Gameplay and Full-Game Content

Mayonaka no Yaiba is an all-ages, single-player visual novel. Read the story, investigate clues, and make choices at key moments as you piece together nearly a year of Chenxing's missing memories.

  • Follow the prologue and common route before entering individual character routes centered on Xiao Ai, Xiaoqing, or Miko.

  • Investigate the truth through torn notes, an old phone, altered records, and anomalies that appear after dark.

  • Your choices affect relationships, the clues you uncover, certain dangerous outcomes, and the endings you reach.

  • Gameplay focuses on reading, investigation, and choices. There are no skill-based action battles, timed choices, or quick-time events.

  • Save and load at any time, use auto-play and the text backlog, and adjust music, sound-effect, and voice volume separately.

  • The game can be completed using only a keyboard or only a mouse.

  • Simplified Chinese and Japanese interfaces and subtitles are supported. The three heroines have partial Japanese character voice acting; Chenxing, the narrator, and other characters are unvoiced.

The complete game is planned to remain permanently free.

Story

Five days ago, second-year high school student Chenxing fell from the fourth floor of his school building.

When he finally woke up, he still remembered his name and his family—but nearly a year of his life was missing from his memory.

At three in the morning, a girl in white appeared in his hospital room, at first visible only to him. With her arrival, a short wooden core marked with the letters “CX” transformed into a cold white blade of light.

It was the Night Blade—something that protected Chenxing, yet might also take something away from him.

After leaving the hospital, two girls present him with conflicting versions of his past.

Xiao Ai claims to be Chenxing's childhood friend and girlfriend. Her memories contain inconsistencies that cannot be explained, but the warmth and care she shows him do not feel false.

Xiaoqing knows Chenxing's place at school, his habits, and the smallest details of his daily life. She also holds evidence that the two of them were once close, yet refuses to reveal what truly happened before his fall.

Meanwhile, Miko, a mysterious girl who is often found among groups of cats, seems to have already seen another side of the story.

A torn note, an empty old phone, altered records, and strange entities that appear only late at night gradually lead Chenxing toward his missing past.

But truth and emotion do not always point in the same direction.

Can the truth of the past decide what someone feels in the present? If a memory is false, what does that make the longing born from it?

Chenxing cannot remain at the crossroads forever. You will decide who he walks beside first—and which truth he must face.
