About This Demo

SURVIVE THE HILLS

The Square Force Demo features a complete survival run on the Hills map, playable solo or with up to four players online.

Your squad must survive five increasingly dangerous phases while searching the battlefield for portal combinations, upgrading weapons, managing resources, and dealing with an enemy force that becomes stronger the longer you survive.

The objective sounds simple:

Find the combination. Open the portal. Get out.

Actually doing it is another matter.

FIVE ESCALATING PHASES

Each run is divided into five phases, with every new phase increasing the difficulty.

As the match progresses, enemies increase in number, health, and attack power, forcing players to continually improve their weapons and tactics if they expect to survive.

What worked during Phase 1 may barely scratch the creatures waiting for you later.

The first four phases are focused on survival, exploration, preparation, and escape.

Reach Phase 5, and it's time to face the boss.

FIND THE PORTAL COMBINATION

Escaping each phase requires more than simply surviving the horde.

Players must explore the Hills and locate the correct portal combination needed to activate the exit. Once the combination has been discovered and entered, the portal opens and the squad can escape into the next phase.

Finding it quickly is important.

Being prepared for what comes next is just as important.

FIND, UPGRADE, AND PREPARE

The time spent in each phase gives your squad an opportunity to search for equipment and improve your weapons before moving forward.

Explore the battlefield, find what you need, and upgrade your arsenal to keep pace with enemies that are constantly becoming tougher.

Move through the portal too quickly and you may find yourself badly underpowered for the next phase.

Spend too long preparing...

Well, that's where things get interesting.

THE BLOOD MOON

Every phase has a time limit.

Stay too long and the Blood Moon begins.

Once active, the enemies become faster, more aggressive, and increasingly difficult to kill. Their strength continues escalating every second you remain inside the Blood Moon.

At that point, casually searching the map for one more upgrade becomes considerably less appealing.

Your options become fairly straightforward:

Open the portal and escape...

or

become part of the landscape.

CHAOS CUBES

Scattered throughout the Hills are Chaos Cubes — optional objects capable of dramatically changing the course of a run.

Find one and you have a decision to make.

Do you use it?

A Chaos Cube might give your squad exactly what it needs.

It might trigger something wildly hilarious.

It might transform the battlefield in ways nobody expected.

Or it might completely doom your entire party.

There is only one reliable method of determining which one you found.

Use it.

Probably.

FOUR-PLAYER CO-OP

Square Force is built around solo and cooperative survival for up to four players.

Teams can split up to search for portal combinations and equipment, stay together to concentrate firepower, share the workload of surviving the horde, and revive teammates when somebody inevitably makes a terrible decision.

And somebody will.

Every additional phase puts more pressure on the squad to coordinate movement, upgrades, exploration, and combat before the Blood Moon turns an already dangerous situation into complete chaos.

PHASE 5 — THE BOSS

Survive the escalating hordes, escape through four portals, upgrade your weapons, and make it through the Blood Moons long enough to reach Phase 5.

Then the objective changes.

There is no next phase to run toward.

There is no portal combination that will save you.

Defeat the boss.

Everything collected, upgraded, and learned during the previous phases leads to this fight.

Come prepared.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Mature Content Description

Square Force contains frequent stylized violence depicted in a cartoon-like, non-realistic art style. Players use firearms, melee weapons, explosives, and elemental attacks to defeat large numbers of enemies. Combat includes enemies being shot, struck, and destroyed, but no realistic gore or graphic depictions of injury are present.

The game features strong and frequent profanity in character dialogue, including explicit language and aggressive humor. Dialogue is intended to be comedic and exaggerated in tone.

Some characters make verbal references to drug and alcohol use, presented humorously or as part of character personality. No drug or alcohol consumption is shown on screen, and there are no gameplay mechanics involving substance use.

A large boss character includes a brief non-sexual nudity gag in which protective armor breaks away, revealing a stone, statue-like anatomical feature used as a gameplay weak point. This depiction is non-realistic, non-sexualized, and presented for exaggerated, comedic effect.

Square Force does not include depictions of sexual acts, sexual assault, non-consensual sexual content, self-harm, or suicide.

Players who may be sensitive to strong language, cartoon violence, implied substance references, or crude humor should take this into consideration before playing.
