About This Game

A free-roaming, squad-based medieval fantasy RPG built around open-ended sandbox gameplay.

Start as nobody in a fractured world of ruined kingdoms, warring factions, famine, slavery, ancient races, and forgotten places. Become a mercenary, trader, thief, farmer, bounty hunter, craftsman, rebel, warlord, slave — or simply another corpse left beside the road.

There is no destiny waiting for you and no story demanding to be completed.

Recruit companions. Train warriors. Trade between settlements. Work the land. Hunt bounties. Rob travelers. Explore ruins. Build a settlement. Research new technology and craft better equipment. Join a faction, betray one, destroy one, or stay out of their wars entirely.

Your characters will be wounded, starved, captured, enslaved, robbed, knocked unconscious, and sometimes killed. Carry your injured companions home, leave them behind, replace them, or somehow drag your broken band of wanderers back from disaster.

The world does not revolve around you.

You simply live in it.

FEATURES

A FREEFORM MEDIEVAL FANTASY SANDBOX

There is no main quest determining who you become. Travel alone or build a large squad. Become merchants, farmers, mercenaries, thieves, explorers, soldiers, slavers, rebels, craftsmen, or drifters with no allegiance at all.

Your goals are your own.

YOU ARE NOT THE CHOSEN ONE

You begin as another vulnerable person inhabiting the world — not its legendary savior.

The soldiers guarding the city gates, the bandits waiting along the roads, the wandering mercenary beside you, and the person you eventually become all exist under the same rules.

Strength is earned.

And the world owes you nothing.

BUILD AND COMMAND YOUR OWN SQUAD

Recruit characters from across the world and shape them through experience.

Turn starving wanderers into hardened warriors, skilled craftsmen, farmers, medics, thieves, traders, or whatever your group needs to survive.

Fight with a handful of companions or grow into a force capable of challenging armies.

Every victory — and every broken limb — becomes part of their story.

A WORLD TORN APART

Xiphos takes place centuries after the collapse of an older world.

Human kingdoms fight over what remains. Dwarven holds endure beneath the mountains. Elven enclaves guard dwindling lands. Orc clans wander the frontiers. Slavers hunt the vulnerable. Cults, undead, raiders, beasts, and forgotten remnants occupy the places civilization abandoned.

Travel from struggling frontier settlements and overgrown farmland to ancient forests, shattered battlefields, mountain kingdoms, wastelands, ruins, and lands where entire civilizations have already disappeared.

FACTIONS HAVE THEIR OWN WARS

The world does not wait for the player before something happens.

Factions control territory, defend settlements, patrol roads, raid their enemies, trade, fight, and respond to the changing world around them.

Aid a kingdom in one war and make enemies elsewhere. Trade with both sides. Prey upon weakened settlements. Free slaves. Capture fugitives. Work as a mercenary.

Or ignore all of them and try to survive while their armies march past you.

BUILD A HOME — OR SOMETHING MUCH LARGER

Purchase property within settlements or leave civilization behind and establish your own.

Build farms, workshops, storage, defenses, homes, and production chains. Research new technologies, craft equipment, grow food, process resources, and turn an isolated camp into a functioning settlement.

Your base can become a refuge, a business, a fortress, or another ruin waiting to happen.

WORK FOR WHAT YOU HAVE

Resources don't simply appear because your characters need them.

Mine ore. Farm crops. Haul water. Craft weapons and equipment. Trade between settlements. Scavenge battlefields and ruins. Loot the dead. Steal from merchants. Hunt people for their bounties.

Characters can be assigned jobs and responsibilities so a growing settlement can continue functioning without every action requiring your direct attention.

Survival eventually becomes an economy.

If you can keep it alive.

BRUTAL, CONSEQUENCE-DRIVEN COMBAT

Fights are dangerous even when you win.

Characters can suffer wounds to individual limbs, blood loss, trauma, crippling injuries, unconsciousness, and death. An injured fighter may become slower or less capable long before the battle ends.

Victorious enemies may leave you bleeding in the dirt.

Others may rob you.

Some may take you alive.

Surviving a battle can matter more than winning it.

FAILURE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN GAME OVER

Getting defeated is part of the world.

Your squad can lose fights, be separated, captured, imprisoned, enslaved, or left unconscious far from safety.

Another squad member may have to rescue them. You may escape. You may recover and return months later.

Some disasters become the beginning of entirely new stories.

NO WORLD BUILT AROUND YOUR LEVEL

Danger does not exist only when the game decides you are ready for it.

Travel somewhere dangerous too early and the people living there will not politely become weaker for you. Powerful warriors, dangerous creatures, valuable equipment, wealthy settlements, and hostile territories exist regardless of your progress.

Sometimes the correct response to what you encounter is to run.

TRADE, STEAL, SCAVENGE, AND SURVIVE

Every settlement is an opportunity.

Buy equipment from merchants, move valuable goods between regions, loot abandoned places, scavenge the aftermath of battles, steal from shops, pick pockets, break into containers, or build a legitimate business of your own.

Crime has consequences — provided someone notices.

A WORLD OF ORDINARY PEOPLE

Guards guard. Merchants trade. Farmers work. Civilians seek safety. Travelers move between settlements. Squads carry their wounded. Workers perform their jobs. Factions defend what belongs to them.

People are not placed in the world solely to wait for the player to interact with them.

Xiphos is built around the idea that the world should feel like it existed before you arrived — and will continue after you're gone.

BECOME WHATEVER SURVIVES

Live inside the walls of a kingdom.

Build a farm beyond them.

Become rich through trade.

Rob those traders.

Join a mercenary company.

Build your own army.

Hunt slavers.

Become one.

Protect a settlement.

Destroy it.

Wander the world with nothing but a sword and whoever has survived long enough to still follow you.

Xiphos does not ask you to save the world.

It asks what you will become while trying to survive it.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI is used to help create some pre-made in-game 3D assets for Xiphos. These assets are reviewed and refined by the developer before being included in the game.

Xiphos does not use generative AI to generate live gameplay content.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Xiphos contains frequent medieval fantasy violence. Characters can fight using swords, axes, blunt weapons, and other weapons, resulting in visible blood, injuries, unconsciousness, and death.

Combat can cause severe injuries and limb dismemberment. Severed limbs may be visibly depicted, and injured characters can bleed onto the ground, leaving blood pools or trails. Bodies of dead or incapacitated characters may remain in the world and can be carried or moved.

The game also includes themes of imprisonment, crime, bounty hunting, and characters being captured or restrained.

Xiphos does not contain sexual acts or sexual violence. It does not currently depict self-harm or recreational drug abuse.
