What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PENNANT's simulation engine is complete and validated against real baseball data; the owner experience on top of it is still growing. Early Access is how a one-save ironman game gets balanced honestly - by owners who can't save-scum around the truth. Real players' decades-long franchises will stress the economy, the trade market, and the board politics in ways solo testing never can.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 3-6 months. We would rather leave Early Access when the game is genuinely ready than rush a fixed date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Planned additions: executive-committee politics (your department heads disagreeing in front of you), TV deal negotiations, deeper stadium district building, richer October presentation, more owner events and storylines, and continued balance tuning driven by how real owners actually play. These are goals, not guarantees - the roadmap will be shaped with the community.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable today, start to fail-state: buy any of 30 franchises, run it for decades - full seasons, mid-season draft, trade deadline, October, free agency, extensions, a complete farm system, a full business ledger, and the forced-sale ending when the money runs out. The engine has been through roughly a thousand simulated seasons of adversarial testing. English only at present.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase modestly at 1.0 as significant content lands. Buying during Early Access supports development at the lower price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Steam discussion boards are the front office suggestion box: balance reports, exploit finds, and feature requests all get read. As a systems-heavy sim, the details matter - trade market fairness, the economy, scouting accuracy, AI owner behavior - and those get tuned based on how the community actually plays. Regular update notes will explain what changed and why.”

About This Game

PENNANT is baseball from the owner's chair, not the dugout.

A text-based baseball sim with 30 generated franchises and no safety net. You buy one, big market or small, and everything under it is yours: the checkbook, the org chart, the ballpark, the fallout. Your front office handles the day-to-day management. Your general manager works the trades. Your scouts grade the kids. Your CFO slides the payroll budget across the desk. The hard part stays with you: you never see the truth, money is the fail state, and there is no undo.

EVERY NUMBER IS AN OPINION

You never see a player's true ability, only your scouting department's estimate of it. Hire a sharp scouting staff and the fog thins. Hire confident frauds and you'll pay ace money for a AAA cameo. Busts and steals aren't scripted. They're what happens when your belief meets the truth, whether you found the kid in the draft, got him in a trade, or paid him in free agency.

MONEY IS YOUR HEALTH BAR

The owner's chair is the one seat in sports nobody can fire you from. Bankrupt is still bankrupt. The league has a real economy: tickets, media deals, sponsorships, payroll, luxury tax, stadium projects, debt service. A full business simulation runs under the baseball, and every dollar of it lands on your books. Build a dynasty on a budget or buy one on credit. This is a tycoon game as much as a pennant race, and the books don't care that your team is winning. Fall far enough and the league forces the sale.

PERMADEATH, BUT FOR A CAREER

PENNANT runs on roguelike rules: one ironman save per owner life. The trade your GM sold you on stays made. Your career grade follows you from franchise to franchise. Dynasty or smoking crater, the Hall of Owners records both.

THE SIMULATION IS REAL

- A deterministic baseball simulator validated against real MLB data.
- A full player universe with hidden development curves and hidden injury proneness. Nobody in the simulation is hand-authored.
- A living farm system from Rookie ball to AAA, where the minor league kids grow up, or don't, and a 20-round draft with bonus pools to stock it.
- 29 AI owner organizations run the other 29 teams. They want the same pennant you do.
- A real baseball calendar: international signing day, spring camp, the mid-season draft, the trade deadline, an October postseason, free agency, extensions.
- Pitcher wins, losses, and saves. Batting races. Season awards with real innings behind them.

THE OWNER'S CHAIR, FULLY FURNISHED

- Big-market juggernauts cost billions. Small-market rebuilds come cheap. Pay cash or finance the franchise and carry the debt.
- Twelve chairs, front office and dugout, report to you: GM, CFO, scouting director, farm director, manager, coaches, trainer, analytics, business ops, and scouts. Each one is exactly as good as they are, and you find out the hard way.
- Budget sit-downs with your CFO. Directives for a GM who brings you trade proposals and executes your orders with whatever judgment he actually has. A manager who writes the lineup card, and you're allowed to poke him.
- Two ways in. Classic is the open-ended owner career. Situations hands you a scenario with the strategy already forced on you: a salvage job, a fire sale, the long haul.
- 17 Steam achievements and a career grade that outlives every team you run.

No licenses. No real rosters. Every franchise and every player is generated, so every story is yours. A baseball management sim for the sports fan who reads the transactions page. Own the game.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI was used during development to help create pre-rendered content that ships with the game: in-game text and narrative templates, store page copy, and 2D brand artwork - all reviewed by the developer. The simulation itself (players, teams, seasons, statistics) is produced at runtime by the game's own deterministic statistical engine, not by AI. No AI-generated content is created while you play.
