About This Game

SUNS UNKNOWN

Build. Survive. Explore.

Suns Unknown is a space colony and spaceship simulation in which you lead your crew through an unknown universe. Starting with a limited supply of resources, you gradually create a functioning home among the stars, complete with power generation, life support, production, research, living quarters, and everything your crew needs to survive.

But nothing in space works by itself.

Oxygen is consumed. Energy runs low. Systems can fail. Resources must be found, transported, and processed. Your crew needs food, sleep, and safe living conditions. At the same time, asteroids, foreign ships, abandoned wrecks, traders, planets, and unknown events are waiting to be discovered.

Every decision affects how long your ship and its crew will survive.

BUILD YOUR OWN SPACESHIP

Your spaceship is not a finished vessel, but a growing construction made up of individual modules and tiles.

Build new rooms, expand existing areas, and decide for yourself how your ship should be laid out. Bedrooms, workshops, storage areas, research, power generation, and life support all compete for limited space and resources.

New systems not only expand your crew’s possibilities, but also increase the demands placed on your ship.

More rooms require more energy.
More crew members consume more oxygen and food.
More mass affects the performance of your engines.

A larger ship is more powerful, but not automatically better.

KEEP YOUR CREW ALIVE

Space does not forgive poor planning.

Your crew needs food, water, oxygen, suitable temperatures, and enough rest. Life support systems keep the different areas of your ship habitable and must be supplied with reliable power.

If temperatures drop, oxygen supply fails, or a room is damaged, the lives of your crew can quickly be put at risk.

Plan your supply systems, install radiators, manage power consumption, and react to warnings before a small malfunction turns into a serious problem.

USE WHAT YOU CAN FIND

Almost nothing in space is worthless.

Asteroids provide basic resources such as iron, copper, silicon, and ice. These materials can be turned into spare parts, electronics, microchips, and more advanced technical components.

Resources must be collected, transported, stored, and delivered to the appropriate production stations.

EXPLORE UNKNOWN SYSTEMS

The universe of Suns Unknown consists of different star systems filled with planets, asteroid fields, and other places waiting to be discovered.

Scan your surroundings and decide which destinations are worth the effort.

Planets can contain different atmospheres and resources. Gas giants, for example, allow you to extract various gases, while other planets offer entirely different conditions.

With specialized technologies, you can analyze planetary atmospheres and eventually extract resources directly from them.

Not every journey will lead to valuable resources.

Sometimes you will find something else.

DISCOVER ABANDONED SHIPS

The remains of other ships drift between the stars.

Abandoned vessels can contain valuable resources, equipment, and rare components. Their rooms, storage areas, and technical systems can also reveal what those ships were once built for.

But a seemingly abandoned ship is not necessarily harmless.

Decide whether investigation and salvage are worth the risk, or whether your crew would be better off keeping their distance.

ENCOUNTER OTHER SHIPS

You are not alone.

Other ships may belong to traders, neutral travelers, or something far more dangerous.

Hostile crews may attempt to pursue you, extort you, or attack your ship. Damaged weapons, destroyed engines, and other system failures directly influence how an encounter develops.

Will you fight, flee, or give in?

In dangerous situations, you can overload your engines to temporarily squeeze out more speed. But that extra performance comes at a price, putting increasing strain on your engines and potentially leading to complete failure.

Sometimes escaping is the better choice.

Sometimes it is already too late.

FIGHT FOR YOUR SHIP

Combat is about more than simply dealing as much damage as possible.

Engines, weapons, and other systems all serve specific functions. Damaging or destroying one of them directly changes the situation.

Once its weapons and engines have been disabled, a dangerous enemy may suddenly become a willing negotiator, prepared to pay for its own survival.

But boarding a defenseless ship remains an option as well.

Every battle costs ammunition, resources, spare parts, and potentially the lives of your crew.

DEVELOP NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Your possibilities grow through research.

New technologies improve existing systems or open entirely new ways of operating your ship.

Develop more efficient power generation, better life support, new production possibilities, and specialized systems for obtaining resources that were previously beyond your reach.

Research is not an isolated technology tree. New technologies create new demands for power, infrastructure, and resource acquisition.

Progress makes your ship more capable while gradually transforming it into a place where your crew can do more than merely survive. It can become a home.

MANAGE POWER AND LIFE SUPPORT

Central control systems allow you to manage power consumers and selectively shut down individual systems or areas. This can save energy when power production is insufficient or when critical systems need to be prioritized.

Even seemingly small decisions can matter.

Lighting can be dimmed to reduce energy consumption. Unnecessary systems can be switched off. Production can wait when life support and other essential systems take priority.

In an emergency, every watt counts.

YOUR CREW WORKS TOGETHER TO SURVIVE

Materials need to be transported. Machines require resources. Damage must be repaired. Plants need to be grown and harvested. Resources have to be recovered from space and brought back aboard the ship.

Skills influence how effectively individual tasks can be carried out.

Your job is not to perform every single action yourself, but to create the conditions in which your crew can feel comfortable and work efficiently.

At least until something goes wrong again.

TRAVEL THROUGH A DYNAMIC UNIVERSE

Your ship moves through a world where distance and position matter.

Plan routes using multiple waypoints and adjust your course whenever necessary. Every new journey can lead you to valuable resources, unknown locations, or unfamiliar ships. Sometimes you will only discover what is waiting for you once you are already in the middle of it.

Engine performance and ship mass determine the speed your vessel can reach.

As your ship grows, it does not only require more resources. Its mobility changes as well.

A gigantic spaceship can be impressive.

Until you actually need to get somewhere.

SURVIVE THE UNEXPECTED

Routine can be dangerous.

Technical failures, resource shortages, hostile ships, and other events can disrupt functioning systems within moments.

A system that worked perfectly yesterday may become tomorrow’s critical bottleneck.

React, improve, rebuild, and constantly decide which systems and resources matter most right now.

Because in space, standing still does not mean being safe.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Suns Unknown contains stylized violence, including spaceship battles and armed combat between crew members and hostile intruders. Characters can be injured, incapacitated, or killed, and blood pools are shown on the ground. Players can order attacks on downed opponents, potentially killing them.

Characters are depicted in a simplified top-down style without visible wounds. Injuries and damage to individual body parts are described in text through health logs and character health information. The game also includes hostile raids, robbery, and extortion.

The game features the cultivation and production of drugs and tobacco, the brewing of alcoholic beverages such as beer, and the manufacture of cigarettes. Characters can trade and consume drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Depending on the substance, consumption can cause intoxication, addiction, and harmful effects on character health.
