It's 2031, and you're looking for an exit.

Concrete prisms. Work. Money. Screens. That slowly churning feeling that something is wrong.

Then an old man puts up an ad and sells you a half-ruined house in the northern mountains for almost nothing.

You probably should wonder why.

Into the Country is a story-rich life sim and visual novel about leaving modern life behind and trying to build something smaller and stranger, while searching for meaning in the remote village of Seishin.

There are mountains to climb. Streams to fish. Food to find. People to know.

And there are places not to go, and people perhaps better left unknown.

BUILD A LIFE YOU CAN TOUCH

Cut those logs. Move those chickens. Yank those plants.

Many of Into the Country's activities are designed to feel physical. Move through spaces, handle objects, reel in a struggling fish, pull forage from the ground, split timber and interact directly with the world around you.

Everyday work sits alongside first-person exploration, changing weather and time, wildlife, hidden places, and the gradual process of making somewhere unfamiliar feel like home.

It's not a bad place to settle. Maybe even to live.

EXPERIENCE AND SHAPE THEIR STORIES

The people of Seishin had lives long before you arrived.

They have histories, flaws, wants, strengths, conflicts and moods of their own. Talk to them. Help them. Get involved. Take sides. Influence them, and let them influence you.

Water someone's plants. Run an errand. Help when a crisis hits — or decide not to.

Friendship can become intimacy. Intimacy can become love, rivalry, resentment, sex, or something harder to define.

Your choices shape the people you grow close to and the community you're becoming part of.

Not everything begins neatly. Not everything ends that way either.

THE WORLD IS ERODING LIKE SAND

You came here to get away from everything.

Unfortunately, everything followed.

The world beyond the mountains is becoming more expensive, unstable and angry. Strange events become harder to dismiss. Old wounds beneath Seishin begin to surface. People disappear, break down, lash out and cling harder to one another.

At first, distance makes all of that easy to ignore.

It won't stay that way.

A darkness migrates upward.

Into the Country is ultimately a story about beauty, work, love, mortality, and what people owe one another when the future stops feeling infinite.

Build something while you still can.
