About This Game

CREATORS OF WAR

Build your army. Forge your kingdom. Shape a world at war.

Creators of War is a sandbox strategy game combining an open-ended overworld with large-scale, real-time tactical battles. Recruit and develop your warriors, manage your armies, trade across kingdoms, build alliances, and fight for control of the world.

There is no fixed path to victory. Serve another kingdom, become a powerful lord, establish your own kingdom, or attempt to conquer the entire world.

A WORLD AT WAR

Travel freely across a large overworld map containing five rival kingdoms, villages, towns, castles, and independent threats.

Kingdoms have their own interests and relationships, with wars, alliances, peace treaties, and shifting allegiances constantly changing the political landscape. Lords can form relationships with one another and with the player, while betrayals and changes in allegiance can reshape existing alliances.

Bandits and rebels also roam the world, creating threats outside of conventional wars.

Become a vassal, build your reputation with other lords, support allies in their wars, or turn against those you once served. Kingdoms can lose territory, collapse, and ultimately be destroyed.

BUILD AND MANAGE YOUR ARMY

Recruit warriors from villages and towns and develop them through experience as they fight. As your troops gain experience, they can progress through different tiers and become more capable soldiers.

Your army is built from squads that you organize yourself. Decide which troops belong together and create formations suited to your strategy.

You might create a dedicated group of spearmen, combine archers with melee troops, or create mixed squads designed for a specific battlefield role.

Your main army is only part of your force. Establish camps to reorganize your troops and leave soldiers behind while your main force travels elsewhere.

GRANULAR REAL-TIME COMBAT

When armies meet, take command of your forces in real-time battles of up to 200 vs 200 soldiers.

You command squads rather than individual soldiers, giving you control over the structure and movement of your army while still allowing battles to unfold on a large scale.

Use different formations and commands to adapt to the battlefield:

  • Line — Form a traditional battle line.

  • Shield Wall — Protect your troops and hold against enemy attacks.

  • Wedge — Concentrate your forces for an aggressive assault.

  • Testudo — Protect your troops against ranged attacks.

  • Charge — Commit your squad to an attack.

Battlefield conditions matter. Terrain, troop composition, formation, morale, fatigue, and friendly fire can all affect the outcome of a battle.

Soldiers can be killed or wounded during combat. Survivors gain experience and can continue developing throughout your campaign, while wounded soldiers can recover and return to your army.

SIEGE WARFARE

Castles and fortified settlements can become the center of major conflicts.

Attack enemy strongholds, defend your own territory, and fight for control of fortified positions. Siege battles will feature defensive walls and require armies to overcome the advantages of a fortified position.

TRADE AND ECONOMY

War isn't the only way to build your power.

Trade goods between villages, towns, cities, and kingdoms. Manage resources, take advantage of supply and demand, operate caravans, collect taxes, and make economic decisions that can strengthen your kingdom.

Villages produce resources that contribute to the wider economy, while towns and cities provide opportunities for trade and wealth.

A prosperous economy can help support your armies, while war and raiding can disrupt the economy of your enemies.

DIPLOMACY AND ALLEGIANCE

Your relationships with the people around you matter.

Build relationships with individual lords, form alliances, become a vassal, negotiate peace, and participate in the political struggles between kingdoms.

Alliances are not permanent. Lords can betray one another, change allegiances, and pursue their own interests. The political landscape can change as quickly as the battlefield.

CREATE YOUR OWN KINGDOM

Start with little more than a handful of warriors and build your power over time.

Recruit your forces. Earn experience. Trade. Raid. Fight alongside allies. Capture towns and castles. Become a vassal or establish your own kingdom.

From there, decide how far you want to go.

Creators of War is an open-ended sandbox. There is no single required path through the game and no fixed ending. You can build a powerful kingdom, maintain alliances, carve out your own territory, or attempt to conquer every rival kingdom in the world.

The world is at war. What will you build?
