500 years ago, humanity disappeared.

The machines remained.
Now, something has awakened.

A human consciousness awakens inside a mechanical body with no memory of what became of the world. Humanity is gone, replaced by a civilization of machines that has continued to evolve in its absence.

But traces of humanity remain.

Fragments of human DNA are being collected, replicated, and incorporated into machine evolution. And somewhere within those fragments may lie the key to bringing humanity back.

The awakened machine begins a journey through a world that was never meant to have him in it.

He awakens in the Terminal District, where broken machines gather before being transported to Fundamentally Artificial — a distant place where machines go to die.

But he was never supposed to be here.

As he searches for answers, he must survive machine authorities, uncover the truth behind humanity's disappearance, and recover the fragments needed to reconstruct the human genome.
