About This Game

ESC ape, You died? started as a project to recreate a game that fits on a single floppy disk (1.44 MB).

'ESC ape' is a pun on Escape: a game built around the ESC (menu) key. It is a puzzle-platformer you solve with the settings window and the UI itself.

Brightness, volume, resolution and keybinds are the keys to every puzzle, and the UI itself can block enemy attacks or strike back.

Even the OS window is fair game. In this game, truly anything can become a weapon or a shield. Perhaps even tampering with the client files could be a hint.

Solve the puzzles of each stage and use every UI and trick to overthrow the ADMIN.

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I completely understand the negative feelings toward AI music. However, to fit everything within the 1.44 MB floppy disk limit, using standard audio files simply wasn't an option.
Generating procedural audio through a code-based synthesizer was the only way to save that much space, but since I don't have a background in music, I had to rely on AI to help compose it.
