Two rooms, fourteen tracks

Above is a forest parish: voices without instruments. Below is an unmarked cellar beneath a laundry: instruments without voices. Twenty centimetres of floor separate them. The Steam Trio has one trumpet, one double bass and a drum made from a laundry tub. The choir and the trio never sound at the same time.

Around them lies Belian in the autumn of 1974: a road heard from a bus seat; the tidy emptiness of the cleanest town in the oblast; the warmth of a cramped shop; a duty report with no right answer; dice in a concrete cell; laundry tubs; tea; and a radiola turning four bars into a whole evening.

These are not orchestral reworkings of the game's music, but the small pieces themselves, heard in the places where the story happens. In album order they follow the same journey—from “Service” to “Seven Notes.”
