About This Game

Break history into elements. Piece civilization back together.

Hist Maker: ReMake is a level-based element-combination puzzle game about history. As a restorer of history, you begin with myths, legends and the origins of civilization, reconnecting people, the natural world, technology, institutions and culture.

For each combination, choose two elements you have already discovered in the current level and work out how they relate within its era. A successful combination reveals new objects, technologies, people or ideas. Those discoveries join your available elements, ready to become part of the next combination.

At its simplest, a connection can be as intuitive as combining "human" and "stone" to discover "stone tool". As a level unfolds, there is more to consider than what can be made from what: how natural conditions shape daily life, how technology changes production, how writing connects with institutions, and how people, ideas and events influence one another.

These connections draw on human work and daily life, as well as the legends and cultures of different civilizations. Familiar historical knowledge can offer a clue; an unexpected discovery may help you see a connection you had never considered.

Every level has its own historical logic

Each level centers on a particular era or civilization, with its own set of elements, combination results, objectives and completion conditions.

The same two elements may lead to different discoveries in different historical settings. Even a familiar formula needs to be understood in the context of a new era. The level's theme, element descriptions, connections you have already found and current objectives all contribute clues to its puzzles.

From China's ancient legends to prehistoric East Asian societies, river valley civilizations and the early civilizations of the Mediterranean, each region's natural conditions, ways of life and paths of social development become part of the puzzle. The changing roles of tools and food, the growth of production and settlements, and the legacies of people and ideas take different forms in each level.

Every level has a clear goal to work toward, with room to discover other connections along the way. You can focus on its objectives, or follow a new discovery to see what else it might connect with among the elements you already know.

From scattered discoveries to a picture of civilization

The connections you uncover do more than fill an element list or a record of your progress.

At the bottom of the screen, a civilization panorama remains in view: an illustrated historical scroll that gradually fills in as the level progresses. Complete the objectives tied to the panorama, and tools, everyday structures, cultural achievements and symbols of the era appear in the scene, bringing that civilization into view.

New discoveries expand your available elements and open up further combinations. As they add up to completed milestones, the corresponding parts of the panorama appear. The connections you work out gain a visible form, showing not only what you have discovered, but how it fits into this civilization.

What begins as a few isolated clues grows into an illustrated scroll of the era's life and culture. As you solve its puzzles, you build up both the connections you have found and a picture of the civilization restored through your discoveries.

Room to experiment, clues to build on

There is no move limit, so you can try different combinations as often as you like. The game records the pairs you have already tested, so you do not have to remember every attempt.

Element descriptions, the level's setting and the connections you have uncovered all inform your next choice. A new description may make an overlooked element worth another look. Sometimes a clue only becomes useful after you discover something else. An element you could not use before might connect with your latest find.

The hint system takes your progress and previous attempts into account, drawing your attention to new elements you have not yet used or suggesting a direction worth investigating. It offers clues rather than carrying out the combination for you. You still choose the elements and test the connection yourself.

Remaking the original and taking it further

Hist Maker: ReMake includes all of the original Hist Maker's level content, with a remade interface and civilization panoramas.

Inspired by historical archives, the interface brings elements, combination records and level progress into a consistent visual style. The new scrolls give completed milestones a richer visual presence. Element management, combination feedback and progress-aware hints have also been refined around the flow of play. Familiar connections and puzzles from the original return with this new presentation.

You do not need to have played the original. Get to know an element, discover a connection, then use your new find to work out what comes next. That is how each journey to restore history begins.

Beyond remaking the original levels, we are also developing levels across more regions, eras and civilizations. We plan to move beyond civilization's origins into further periods of history, bringing new historical puzzles with their own elements, objectives and combination logic.
