What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“"The Living Lands is a big, systems-driven RPG, and the parts that make it work (combat pacing, class balance, the economy, how the simulated world feels to play in) only really prove themselves with players living in it. We want that feedback while those systems are still flexible.

Player feedback will directly steer what we prioritize: which classes and races unlock next, how PvP takes shape, where the world grows, and how the main storyline lands. This is a game we want to build with its players”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're planning to bring The Living Lands out of Early Access in January 2027. That's our honest best guess, not a hard promise. If some systems need more time to feel right, we'll take it rather than rush the finish, and we'll keep everyone posted along the way if the timing moves.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access is a full, playable RPG, but it opens with a curated slice of the roster: six of the planned ten classes and three of the seven races are selectable, alongside dozens of zones, a living world of simulated players, day-night and weather systems, crafting, and a working save system.

For the full version, we plan to keep expanding in a few directions:

The rest of the roster. We plan to unlock the remaining classes (Druid, Monk, Shapeshifter, Conjurer) and races (Half-Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Giant) as we finish tuning and testing each one.

The main storyline. We plan to build out the epic questline (the Door of Death arc) that ties the world together, so the Living Lands has a beginning, middle, and end rather than an open sandbox alone.

More world. We plan to add new zones, enemies, and loot to broaden the level bands and give higher-level characters more places to go.

Deeper systems and polish. We plan to keep refining skill trees, enemy equipment, followers, and set bonuses, and to tune combat pacing, progression, and the economy.

Player feedback during Early Access will shape which of these grow fastest and what else we take on.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of the game is playable with all features and details listed in the About This Game section, with two exceptions: At early access launch, only three of the seven races and six of the 10 classes will be available for play”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price as the game grows.

Early Access starts at a lower price to reflect that it's an early, evolving build. As we add the remaining classes and races, the main storyline, new zones, PvP, and other systems, we plan to gradually increase the price to match the expanded content. We expect the full release to cost more than the Early Access price.

Buying during Early Access is the least expensive way to get the game, and you'll receive all updates through to the full version at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is a big part of how The Living Lands gets better. I want to hear what's working, what isn't, and what you'd like to see, and let that steer where the game goes next: which classes and races unlock next, how PvP shapes up, how combat and the economy feel, and where the world grows from here.

The best place to reach me is the Steam Community forums. Post your questions, share feedback, or drop a bug report and I'll read it. Bug reports especially are hugely helpful; the more detail the better, since it helps me track things down fast.

This is a game I'm building alongside the people playing it, and the more you tell me, the better it gets.”

About This Game

The Living Lands

Basically no graphics. No mercy. All imagination.

The Living Lands is a text-driven RPG that runs entirely on words and status bars, powered by your own head-cinema. There are no sprites to hide behind and no cutscenes to skip. You read the room, click a move (or type it, if you prefer the old-school way), and the world answers back in real time. If you have ever wanted a whole fantasy continent living inside a set of clean panels that never stop moving, this is it.

Think of it as the tabletop campaign that never needs a Dungeon Master, crossed with the loot-chasing, number-climbing itch of an action RPG. The only art budget here is the one in your imagination, and that one is unlimited.

Why you will keep saying "one more room"

Ten classes, ten completely different brains. Roll an Elementalist juggling elements, a Paladin stacking Block Charges behind a shield wall, a Shadowblade dancing in and out of the dark, a Necromancer building an army of the dead, or a Shapeshifter who rewrites their whole kit by changing form mid-fight. Each class is its own puzzle box with a ARPG-style skill tree, so two players of the same class can still play nothing alike.

Seven races to build from. Your bloodline shapes your stats and your starting kit before you ever swing a sword.

A world that keeps living without you. Dozens of zones, from starter meadows to volcanic dwarven forges to a temporally displaced observatory where scholars are studying the wrong century. Day turns to night on a real clock. Weather rolls through the hubs. Enemies spawn, wander, and respawn whether you are watching or not.

You are not alone out there. Simulated players roam the same rooms you do, carrying real gear and climbing the same leaderboards. Chase them up the rankings for wealth, power, and glory, or settle it directly.

Loot worth hoarding. Randomized drops, set bonuses, and named unique items. Alchemy to brew your own edge. Followers and summoned companions to fight at your side. Enough build depth to justify that "just one more level" you keep promising yourself.

Fast, real-time combat. This is not a sleepy "wait for your turn" affair. Fights tick in real time, positioning and cooldowns matter, and the combat log paints every hit in color so you always know exactly how the fight is turning.

For the skeptics who love graphics

With The Living Lands, we've brought text-based gaming into a modern era - give it ten minutes. Text games are not a step backward; they are a different kind of fast: instant to read, instant to act, and impossible to spoil with a bad camera angle. The Living Lands renders at the speed of your imagination, and your imagination has an unlimited graphics budget.

Pick a direction. See where the Lands take you.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools assisted in drafting some written content, including certain in-game room and enemy descriptions and portions of this store page. All such content was reviewed and edited by the developer.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

The Living Lands is a text-based fantasy RPG. All content is conveyed through written descriptions and status readouts, not visual depictions, so there are no graphic images of any kind.

Violence: Combat is central to the game. Fights are described in text, with references to weapons, wounds, blood, and death. Enemies and characters can be killed, and defeated foes leave corpses that can be looted. The tone is that of classic fantasy adventure, comparable to a tabletop RPG or a fantasy novel. The violence is stylized and not gratuitous, but it is persistent and frequent.

Dark fantasy themes: The world includes undead, necromancy (raising and commanding the dead), monsters, and a story that touches on death and mortality. Some zones and enemies carry a grim or unsettling tone.

Alcohol: The game world includes taverns and drinkable beverages, including alcohol, as part of its fantasy setting.

No sexual content: The game contains no depictions of sexual acts, sexual assault, or nudity.

There is no depiction of real-world drug abuse, self-harm, or sexual violence.
