What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Gilded City is built around systems that interact and evolve together, from urban development and procedural buildings to transportation, industry, trade, and population.

We want to develop these systems together with the community. Early Access will give us an opportunity to see how players build their cities, discover unexpected strategies and problems, and use that feedback to improve the simulation and overall experience.

The Early Access period will also allow us to gradually expand the scope and variety of the game, creating a more immersive and historically authentic experience of the Gilded Age.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect the game to remain in Early Access for approximately 12 ~ 18 months. The exact duration may change depending on how the game develops during Early Access and the feedback we receive from the community.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Areas we plan to expand and refine in early access stage include:

- Railways and Trains: A major priority, as railways were the lifeline of 19th-century industrial cities.

- Public Transportation: Additional options such as elevated railways and streetcars.

- Tycoon System: Historically inspired tycoons who can bring unique investment opportunities to your city, including large factories, department stores, and other major developments.

- Tutorial / Campaign Mode: Develop real American cities with unique features.

- Civic and Landmark Buildings: A wider variety of educational, entertainment, and religious buildings, as well as corporate headquarters.

- Skyscrapers: More detailed and diverse exterior options and building forms for skyscrapers.

- Terrain Edit: Tools to modify the shape of water and land area.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains the core city-building experience of The Gilded City:

- Build System: Free-form roads and parcels, procedurally generated buildings, and tools to customize building forms and exteriors.

- Infrastructure System: Harbor and ships, trade route set up, and the Omnibus as public transportation.

- Developer System: Attract developers based on economic performance, with automated decision-making for site and building type selection.

- Economy System: Simulation of goods production, profitability, and operation rates for individual buildings, alongside domestic and world markets, imports and exports.

- Demographic System: Statistical simulation of population, income, employment, education, and skill levels.

- Inspection View: Color-coded view of building performance and demographic information.

- Environment and Beautification: Create parks, plant trees, place urban furnitures and decorations.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As the game grows in content and scope, the price will increase over time. Our planned post-launch updates, including new content, features, and improvements, will be provided as free updates.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will be an important part of the development of The Gilded City. We plan to get player's feedback through In-game bug reports, Steam community posts, and Discord channel discussions. This will help us prioritize the improvements for this game.”

About This Game

The Gilded City is a historical city-building simulation set in the rapidly changing cities of the American Gilded Age. You will start with a small village in the 19th century and shape its growth into a thriving metropolis of skyscrapers, bustling ports, and smoke-filled factories.

Build Your City, Your Way

Design your own urban fabric with free-form roads and parcels. There is no fixed grid forcing every city into the same shape.

Developers and Tycoons

Build the infrastructure needed to move people, goods, and capital through the city, attract developers and tycoons with special opportunities to invest in your growing city.

Developers choose what to build based on the conditions you create. They construct new residences, factories, and businesses. Alternatvely, you can keep them out and protect the compactness and quietness of your city.

Customize Your City

Plant trees or place decorations, change setbacks and building forms to create the city form that you envisioned.

A City Driven by Economy

You are not a god placing buildings one by one. Instead, influence where and how development happens through land, infrastructure, accessibility, demand, and economic opportunity.

See railroads and ports connect local production to distant markets. Factories respond to changing market demand, turn raw materials into manufactured goods, while businesses compete to sell these goods to customers.

Your decisions shape the city, and the city will grow on its own.

Experience the Gilded Age

Guide a city as it transforms from a small settlement into a bustling industrial metropolis. See new buildings rise, build new infrastructure, and apply new technologies to reshape the city during the rapidly changing 19th century.

You can rewrite the history of the American Gilded Age in The Gilded City.
