What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Idle Frontier’s gathering, exploration, camp building, crafting, village relationships and research are already playable, but the way these systems connect, long-term balance and the pace of progression are not final. Early Access is a chance to explore what makes these activities enjoyable with real player feedback. Development may involve changing parts of the core gameplay loop and how systems interact, rather than only adding more content. I hope we can make life on the frontier more satisfying together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately one year. The actual duration may change according to content completion, stability, and player feedback. Early Access will not end solely to meet a fixed date before the major systems reach the intended quality.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I hope to develop a richer, more polished experience, with further regions, progression options, village and travel events, recipes, facilities, research clues and modding support, alongside improvements to the interface, balance, performance and localization. Depending on development and player feedback, parts of the core gameplay loop, system interactions and progression may also be reworked. The current loop is not a promise of an unchanged final design, and the scope and priorities of future content may change.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Alpha 0.461 currently includes resource gathering, survival upkeep, regional travel and exploration, camp construction and upgrades, crafting and cooking, farming and livestock, village relationships and barter, map research, unknown relics, an encyclopedia, local saves, and Steam Workshop mod management. Content and balance are still being expanded.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be offered at a lower price during Early Access. The price is planned to increase for the full release as content, systems, and overall completeness grow. Any change will be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback will be gathered through Steam discussions, bug reports, and the Workshop, with particular attention to long-term pacing, resource balance, interface readability, save stability, and mod compatibility. Feedback will help prioritize improvements while the overall design remains cohesive.”

About This Game

Welcome to Idle Frontier! It's lovely to have you here.

Pack your bag, find a clearing, and make yourself at home. Your life on the frontier starts here.

Idle Frontier is a single-player idle survival and resource-management game told through text and a simple interface. In a fictional medieval world, you'll gather, explore, craft and tend your camps, gradually turning unfamiliar places into somewhere you can rest. Whether you enjoy planning your next batch of supplies or wondering where a little path might lead, you're very welcome here!

Start with Some Firewood and a Warm Meal

Set up gathering tasks, collect materials and craft dependable tools. Pack food and clean water before heading out, and keep an eye on hunger, thirst and your supplies. Cooking, pickling and drying help you make the most of what you've gathered. Your skills grow through use, making everyday preparations a little easier.

Make a Camp Feel Like Home

Choose a spot, build a camp, light a fire and add facilities that turn raw materials into useful supplies. Grow crops, look for better seeds and care for livestock. Establish camps in different places to give yourself a resting point on longer journeys. Watching a little planning turn into a good harvest is its own kind of adventure.

Stop by the Village and Make New Friends

Take a break from your chores and have a chat. Help residents with their requests, barter for what you need and get to know the people behind the familiar faces. A conversation or a helping hand can make an unfamiliar village feel a little more welcoming.

Follow Your Curiosity

Travel across a regional map generated from your world seed, notice the surroundings and wildlife, and prepare before choosing your next path. Your encyclopedia fills with things you've encountered, while new finds open up new possibilities. The surprises along the way? Those are yours to discover.

Find a Pace That Suits You

Play offline with saves stored on your own computer. Adjust the game speed and difficulty to suit you, enjoy making plans, or slow down to tend your camp and read your travel notes. I hope the frontier becomes somewhere you look forward to spending a little time.

Feel like sneaking in a little frontier time between tasks at work? Set up a gathering task, stock up on food and water, and check back for your camp’s latest haul without watching the screen constantly. When things get busy, pause the game—the frontier can wait for you.

Come Play—and Help Me Make It Even More Fun!

Thank you for taking a look at Idle Frontier! I'm continuing to improve the game, and I'd love to hear how it feels to play. Whether it's something you enjoyed, a clumsy interaction, a bug or a little idea you'd like to share, please get in touch through the Steam discussions. Your stories from the frontier are welcome, too.

I'm excited to hear from you and keep making this world more enjoyable together. Have a wonderful journey, and I'll see you by the campfire!

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI-assisted tools are used throughout the development of Idle Frontier, including design, programming, content creation and marketing. Generative AI is used to generate or assist with player-facing artwork and illustrations, backgrounds, promotional images and logos, narrative and dialogue, encyclopedia text, localization and store-page copy. The developer selects and integrates the material into the released game. This is pre-generated content: the game does not generate content or code with AI during play and does not connect to external AI services.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Animal hunting, night attacks, health loss, stolen food, and obtaining meat are presented through text and static interface elements. There are no realistic combat scenes, gore, or dismemberment. The game includes beer, wine, mead, medicines, and related crafting, barter, and consumption descriptions.
