Reviews

“Dystoria is one of those games that you just know may go on to achieve cult status.”
63/100 – GameCrate

“Tri-Coastal Games not only want to benefit from the ubiquitous old school hype, but has developed a relatively unused principle, which despite all bonds to the past feels fresh.”
8/10 – 4Players

““Retro” is a hard target to hit, as far as visuals go. Dystoria nails that target dead-on with a death ray. This is what every kid imagined when playing games like Galaga, Arkanoid, and Sinistar.”
73/100 – CogConnected

About This Game

The year is 1984 and you've been specially selected to represent the best that Earth has to offer. Have you got what it takes to tackle all six-axis in this neon retro shooter, battling to the sounds of synthwave beats, navigating a labyrinth at every angle? Can you fly back to the future to save all tomorrow's arcades, or are you simply all out of coins?

So this really redefines space shooters across six-axis?

For sure! Some are simply content with just the one axis. Not you though buckaroo! Speeding both inside and out, you've got a whole host of alien forces to defeat and power-ups to collect if you ever hope to have a fighting chance of representing the human race.

Is this the future or the past?

Good question starfighter! Honestly it's difficult to know which way is up, as your hover ship clings to the neon labyrinthine grids floating precariously in the outer depths of space. Zipping every which way, a cool head is essential for determining whether you're up, down, sideways, or inside out!

Why on earth is all this happening?

Chosen as the baddest dude in all the arcades, you're beamed off to outer space by a secretive group known only as Omniam. Given a hover ship to tackle a series of increasingly difficult zero g labyrinths, the scene is set. Proving humanity's place beyond the stars, can you show those alien suckers what we're really made of?

What lies waiting out there?

Who knows? It is up to you to really explore everything that Dystoria truly has to offer the wayward adventurer, with hidden items, areas and better upgrades galore.

What about them big guns though?

Focus! Hotheads make great fodder for those alien scum. A lot of the time you'll need to remain rational if you ever hope to solve some of the more challenging puzzles. Then you'll get your homing missiles to show those troublesome NATs and Seekers who's boss. Choosing between sniping from a distance, or going in all guns blazing, the choice really is yours when it comes to equipping rockets or speed bursts.

We're going to need a bigger ship!

Now you're getting it champ! With over nine different unique ships on offer, you can salvage parts and unlock the one that's right for you, building it up along with your starfighting skills. Now step to it and look lively cadet, the universe is counting on you!

Yes sir!
