What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Emberglade is a game built around one question: can you build a slot machine good enough to survive the run? That core loop, spin to pay the toll, loot relics that rewrite the odds, and gamble your way to the boss, is fully playable today, and it's the part I most want real players to pull apart.

I'm choosing Early Access because a game like this lives or dies on balance and variety, and those are things I can't perfect alone. The relics, the difficulty curve, and which builds feel powerful are all things that get dramatically better with thousands of players finding the combinations and edge cases I never could. I'd rather build the rest of the game with the people playing it than guess in isolation and hope I got it right.

I'm committed to seeing Emberglade through to a 1.0 release, and I plan to use Early Access to add content, respond to feedback, and tune the game into the best version of itself.dd”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan for Emberglade to be in Early Access for approximately one year. That timeline may shift depending on player feedback and the scope of features the community responds to most , I'd rather take the time to get it right than rush it out on a fixed date.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains the complete core loop, spinning, the toll economy, relics, the branching map, multiple heroes, and the run through to the final boss. For the full version, I plan to expand the game in a few directions:

More relics, to deepen the build variety that's at the heart of the game
Additional heroes, each with their own starting build and playstyle
More biomes, enemies, and map events along the road
A save system and meta-progression, so that unlocks and progress carry between runs
Additional bosses and run modifiers, and features like daily or seeded runs

I also plan to use Early Access to refine balance, add quality-of-life improvements, and respond to what players tell me. These are goals rather than guarantees, and the final scope will be shaped in part by community feedback during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Emberglade is fully playable from start to finish right now. The current version includes:

The complete core loop: wager-based spinning, the escalating toll economy, and three ways to lose a run (out of spins, out of gold, out of health)
A library of relics that change how the reels and rules work, bought in shops between zones
Multiple playable heroes, each a different starting build
A branching, Slay-the-Spire-style map with roads, elites, shops, camps, treasures, and events, ending at a final boss
Eight biomes with their own enemies and hazards, plus battle animations and audio

A full run is playable and winnable today. What's still growing is the amount of content — more relics, heroes, biomes, and progression systems — and ongoing balance tuning. It's a complete, polished experience at its current scope; Early Access is about widening that scope with player input.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to raise the price as Emberglade grows through Early Access and more content and features are added. Players who join during Early Access will pay the lowest price the game will have, as a thank-you for supporting development early and helping shape the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is central to how I plan to develop Emberglade. Because the game is built on relics and build variety, the players who experiment with it will surface balance issues, overpowered and underpowered combinations, and ideas I'd never find on my own — and that feedback will directly shape which relics, heroes, and features I add and how I tune them.
I plan to be actively involved with players through the Steam Community Hub — discussions, bug reports, and suggestions — and through a community Discord server for more direct, day-to-day conversation. I'll read feedback regularly, talk openly about what I'm working on, and let player input guide the game's priorities during Early Access. Players who get involved will have a real hand in the direction Emberglade takes on its way to 1.0.”

About This Game

Build the machine. Then bet your life on it.

Emberglade is a roguelike where the slot machine is yours to break. Every spin is a wager from your own purse, and every road out demands a toll — gold you have to win before your spins run out. Spin well and you cross into the next zone. Spin badly and the road ends there.

The reels alone won't save you. They barely break even by design. What wins runs is what you bolt onto them.

Loot relics that rewrite the odds

Between zones you spend your winnings on relics — and the good ones don't just add a number, they change what a good spin even looks like. Delete every monster from the reels. Make coins pay in threes instead of fives. Turn your healing potions into gold. Trade a heart for a triple payout.

Stack the right relics and your machine stops being a slot and starts being an engine. No two runs build the same one.

Choose your road

The path to Shadowkeep branches. Take the safe road, or gamble on an Elite for a steeper toll and a free relic. Stop at a shop, rest at a camp, or gamble on a mystery. Every choice spends something you can't get back: gold, health, or spins.

Know when to walk away

This is a game about the bet. Wager too little and the toll buries you. Wager it all and one cold streak wipes you out. The tolls climb faster than the reels can keep up, so every zone asks the same question a little louder: is your machine good enough yet — or are you one spin from losing everything?

Eight biomes. One long road. No two runs alike.

From the Sunlit Meadow to the black halls of Shadowkeep, every biome fights differently and every run hands you a different machine to build. Push your luck all the way to the Shadow Lord — if your engine holds.
