What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Prime Rail Control is a simulator built for railway and signalling enthusiasts, and that community's feedback is the best way to get the details right. Early Access lets us grow the content — more stations, signalling systems and scenarios — and refine the simulation with real players before the full 1.0 release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Early Access to last roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on community feedback and the scope of features we add. We'd rather ship a polished 1.0 than rush it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add more prebuilt stations and scenarios, additional signalling and dispatcher features, expanded emergency handling, refined scoring, Steam Cloud saves and further quality-of-life improvements. The core simulation is already in place — Early Access focuses on breadth and polish.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Already playable and feature-rich: full dispatching across four authentic interlocking panels (relay, numeric-choice, ESA and SIMIS-W), a complete station editor with OpenStreetMap import, a procedural traffic generator and scenario editor, realistic emergencies with procedure-based handling and scoring, multi-monitor support, and 19 languages. The screenshots and description reflect what's included today.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we add content and approach the full release. Buying during Early Access gets you the lowest price and directly supports development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We'll gather feedback through the Steam community hub and discussions, prioritise fixes and features based on player input, and pay attention to the stations and scenarios players most want to see. Community suggestions will directly shape the roadmap.”

About This Game

Prime Rail Control puts you in the signalman's chair. Every train on your patch is your responsibility — set its route, throw the points, clear the signals, and keep the whole timetable moving without a single conflict. No twitch reflexes, no luck: just you, the panel, and the trains.

Operate authentic interlocking panels

Switch between control systems modelled on the real thing — each with its own look, logic and feel:
  • Relay interlocking (RZZ) — the classic push-button desk: press start, press end, watch the route lock in.
  • Numeric-choice interlocking — enter track codes on the keypad to build routes the old-school way.
  • ESA electronic interlocking (JOP) — a modern screen-based relief with route stacks and an emergency operations desk.
  • SIMIS-W — another electronic system with its own signalling graphics and workflow.
Prefer a cleaner overview? Flip to the geometric control view and dispatch straight from the track schematic.

Build or import any station

  • Track Editor — lay track, place switches, signals, platforms and interlocking, then test it live.
  • Import from OpenStreetMap — pull a real-world station straight off the map and turn it into a playable layout.
  • Import existing layouts — bring in stations from other simulator formats.

Run the timetable

Generate endless, believable traffic with the built-in traffic generator, or craft your own scenarios in the scenario editor — with day-of-week filtering, services that run past midnight, station stops, dwell times and train renumbering. Every service wants its platform on time; keeping them all flowing is the real game.

When something goes wrong

Points that won't move, track circuits showing false occupancy, signal and power failures, level-crossing faults — react the way a real dispatcher would, follow the correct procedure, and keep the railway safe and running. Your handling is scored, so precision pays off.

Feature highlights

  • Four faithful interlocking systems plus a geometric control view
  • Full station editor with OpenStreetMap import
  • Procedural traffic generator and hand-built scenarios
  • Realistic emergencies with procedure-based handling and scoring
  • Multi-monitor support for a proper control-room setup
  • Available in 19 languages
  • Single-player, mouse-driven, built for enthusiasts
