About This Game

Books for Bad Neighbors

IIt's 199X. You run the mail-order counter at the only bookshop for forty miles. Every order tells you what someone plans to do. Read the letters, fill the boxes, hit your quota, and decide which books your neighbors should never receive. A deduction thriller told entirely through book orders.

A priest hears the confession. A doctor sees the wound. You see what people order at two in the morning. Read between the lines of every mail order and decide what to sell to whom. Remember, everyone knows where you work.

Books for Bad Neighbors is a deduction thriller set where your only move is what you put in the box. Fill the order, send the wrong book, or refuse, and live with what happens next.

The work is simple

Order new books every day. Read the letters. Find the books you have. Pack the boxes. Hit your quota, close the shop. Then do it again tomorrow.

What the supplier sells changes every week, and some books sell out and never come back, so what you can give people is not always your choice.

Fill enough orders for one person and their letters get longer. They start telling you things. By then you've read enough of their mail to finish their sentences.

Some orders you should not fill

You still have a quota to hit, and if you say no to someone, they will want to know why, and they know where you work.

The shop closes at six. You walk home the same way every night.
