Game Pulse: 1978 Season Set

Fourteen games back in July. A one-game playoff at Fenway in October. This set brings the complete 1978 professional baseball season to Game Pulse — all 26 teams, every player, and 26 authentic ballpark cards reflecting the quirks and dimensions of the era's classic venues.

What's Included

All 26 team rosters with full player cards (position players and pitchers)

Mid-season movers get a card for each team they played on, plus a combined totals card

All 26 ballparks, from Fenway Park to the Kingdome, with ratings derived from period park performance data

New ratings built from the full 1978 regular season, LCS, and World Series

Card Generation

Every card is generated from actual 1978 season statistics. Batter and pitcher ratings are built from real performance data across the full season, with park factors computed from each stadium's run environment — so Ron Guidry's card reflects the year he went 25-3, and Fenway plays the way it played.

Game 163

Boston led the American League East by fourteen games in July. Then New York swept four straight at Fenway in September by a combined 42-9, and the two clubs finished the 162-game schedule dead even. The tiebreaker went back to Fenway on October 2. Mike Torrez had a 2-0 lead in the seventh when a light-hitting shortstop named Bucky Dent lifted a three-run fly ball over the Green Monster, and Goose Gossage got Carl Yastrzemski to pop up to third with the tying run 90 feet away. Every swing in that season — Boston's collapse and New York's chase — is baked into these cards. Play it out and see if the Red Sox hold the lead this time.

A Season Full of Legends

1978 was packed with stars writing history. Ron Guidry put together one of the greatest pitching seasons ever seen — 25-3 with a 1.74 ERA, nine shutouts, 248 strikeouts, and 18 in a single June night against California — and took the Cy Young unanimously. Jim Rice won the MVP with 46 home runs, 139 RBI, 15 triples, and 406 total bases, the first American Leaguer to clear 400 since Joe DiMaggio in 1937. Dave Parker hit .334 and took the NL MVP. Gaylord Perry, 39 years old and pitching in San Diego, won 21 games and became the first man ever to win a Cy Young in both leagues. Rod Carew claimed his seventh batting title. Pete Rose collected his 3,000th hit in May and then hit safely in 44 straight games, tying the National League record. J.R. Richard struck out 303. And the rookie class arrived in force — Lou Whitaker, Bob Horner, Ozzie Smith, Paul Molitor, Alan Trammell. Mike Schmidt, Reggie Jackson, Nolan Ryan, George Brett, Eddie Murray, Steve Carlton — every star's real 1978 performance is here, card for card.

Relive the 1978 World Series

New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Dodgers. Los Angeles won the first two games at Chavez Ravine, and then New York won four in a row — the second straight October the Yankees ended the Dodgers' season. Graig Nettles turned Game 3 into a fielding clinic at third base, journeyman Brian Doyle hit .438 filling in at second, and Bucky Dent capped the strangest month of his life by hitting .417 and taking home the World Series MVP. Replay it batter by batter, manage either side, or run the series a few dozen times to see how often history repeats itself. Every at-bat, every pitching change, every ballpark detail — all driven by the real 1978 cards and the roll of the dice.

A Cards and Dice Baseball Game

Game Pulse is a true cards-and-dice baseball simulation. Every plate appearance is resolved by player cards and dice rolls — the same tactile, statistically driven experience that tabletop fans have loved for decades, brought to life digitally with full animation, sound, and presentation.
