Game Pulse: 1979 Season Set

One clubhouse turned a disco record into a rallying cry, and a 39-year-old first baseman carried it all the way to Game 7. This set brings the complete 1979 professional baseball season to Game Pulse — all 26 teams, every player, and authentic ballpark cards reflecting the quirks and dimensions of the era's classic venues.

What's Included

All 26 team rosters with full player cards (position players and pitchers)

Mid-season movers get a card for each team they played on, plus a combined totals card

Every 1979-era ballpark, with ratings derived from period park performance data

New ratings built from the full 1979 regular season, LCS, and World Series

Card Generation

Every card is generated from actual 1979 season statistics. Batter and pitcher ratings are built from real performance data across the full season, with park factors computed from each stadium's run environment — so Willie Stargell's card reflects his MVP season, and Three Rivers Stadium plays the way it played.

We Are Family

Willie Stargell was 39 years old and handing out little gold stars to teammates who did their jobs. What he did that year has never been matched: he shared the National League MVP with Keith Hernandez, then won the NLCS MVP, then won the World Series MVP — the only player ever to take all three in the same season. Pittsburgh played the whole year as a team that refused to be counted out, and in October it did the same thing on the biggest stage. Every one of Pops' swings is baked into his card.

A Season Full of Legends

1979 was packed with stars at the top of their game. Don Baylor drove in 139 runs, won the AL MVP, and pushed California to the first division title in franchise history. Mike Flanagan went 23-9 for a 102-win Baltimore club and took the AL Cy Young. Bruce Sutter saved 37 games and became one of the few relievers ever to win a Cy Young. Keith Hernandez hit .344 for the batting title and half of that shared MVP. Fred Lynn hit .333 with 39 home runs, George Brett put up 20 doubles, 20 triples, and 20 home runs in the same season — the first player since Willie Mays to do it — and Dave Kingman launched 48 homers for the Cubs. Carl Yastrzemski and Lou Brock both collected their 3,000th hits, and a 20-year-old named Rickey Henderson played his first big-league game in Oakland. Jim Rice, Nolan Ryan, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Gary Carter, Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer — every star's real 1979 performance is here, card for card.

The season also carried real weight. New York catcher and captain Thurman Munson died in a plane crash on August 2, and the Yankees played out the year without him.

Relive the 1979 World Series

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Baltimore Orioles. Baltimore took a three-games-to-one lead and needed one more win. Pittsburgh refused to give it to them, winning three straight and closing it out in Game 7 on Baltimore's own field, where Stargell homered in the sixth to turn the deficit into a lead. He finished the series 12-for-30 with three home runs and a record seven doubles. Replay it batter by batter, manage either side, or run the series a few dozen times and find out how often a team comes back from 3-1. Every at-bat, every pitching change, every ballpark detail — all driven by the real 1979 cards and the roll of the dice.
