Game Pulse: 1982 Season Set

A division race decided on the last day of the schedule, a stolen base record that still stands, and a seven-game World Series between two beer towns. This set brings the complete 1982 professional baseball season to Game Pulse — all 26 teams, every player, and 26 authentic ballpark cards reflecting the quirks and dimensions of the era's classic venues.

What's Included

All 26 team rosters with full player cards (position players and pitchers)

Mid-season movers get a card for each team they played on, plus a combined totals card

All 26 ballparks, from Fenway Park to the Metrodome in its first season, with ratings derived from period park performance data

New ratings built from the full 1982 regular season, LCS, and World Series

Card Generation

Every card is generated from actual 1982 season statistics. Batter and pitcher ratings are built from real performance data across the full season, with park factors computed from each stadium's run environment — so Robin Yount's card reflects an MVP season, and County Stadium plays the way it played.

130

Rickey Henderson spent the summer of 1982 turning first base into a launching pad. The year ended with 130 stolen bases — shattering Lou Brock's single-season record of 118 and setting a mark nobody has matched since. Henderson walked 116 times, ran on everyone, and was thrown out 42 times along the way, because stopping was never part of the plan. Every one of those attempts is baked into the card. Turn Henderson loose and see what your catchers can do about it.

Harvey's Wallbangers

Milwaukee led the majors in runs and home runs, then took the American League East down to the final afternoon of the season, needing one win in Baltimore to clinch the division and getting it from Don Sutton, a late-August trade pickup. The pennant was just as close: down two games to none against California, Milwaukee won three straight at County Stadium — the first team ever to win a League Championship Series after losing the first two games. Robin Yount was the engine — .331 with 29 home runs and 210 hits, leading the league in hits, total bases, and slugging on the way to the MVP — with Cecil Cooper, Gorman Thomas, Paul Molitor, and Ben Oglivie filling out the lineup and Pete Vuckovich taking the Cy Young at 18-6.

A Season Full of Legends

Beyond Milwaukee, 1982 was packed with stars writing history. Dale Murphy won the NL MVP for an Atlanta team that opened the year with 13 straight wins. Steve Carlton went 23-11 with 286 strikeouts and took a fourth Cy Young. Cal Ripken Jr. won AL Rookie of the Year — and on May 30 played the first game of a streak that would run for the next sixteen years. Gaylord Perry won game number 300. Reggie Jackson, in a first season in California, tied Milwaukee's Gorman Thomas for the American League home run lead at 39. Ozzie Smith arrived in St. Louis and started turning shortstop into an art form, and Steve Sax took NL Rookie of the Year. And on August 4, Joel Youngblood singled off Fergie Jenkins for New York in an afternoon game at Wrigley Field, was traded during the game, and singled off Steve Carlton for Montreal in Philadelphia that night — two hits, two teams, two cities, one day. The set has a card for each stop. George Brett, Eddie Murray, Mike Schmidt, Nolan Ryan, Bruce Sutter, Rollie Fingers — every star's real 1982 performance is here, card for card.

Relive the 1982 World Series

St. Louis vs. Milwaukee — the Suds Series. Milwaukee opened with a 10-0 win in St. Louis, Paul Molitor collecting five hits, and led three games to two heading back to Busch Stadium. Then Whitey Herzog's team took over: a 13-1 rout in Game 6, and in Game 7 a comeback from 3-1 down in the sixth inning, keyed by Keith Hernandez's game-tying two-run single, before Bruce Sutter closed it out. Darrell Porter was named World Series MVP. Replay it batter by batter, manage either side, or run the series a few dozen times to see how often history repeats itself. Every at-bat, every pitching change, every ballpark detail — all driven by the real 1982 cards and the roll of the dice.
