What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Desktop Monsters already has a complete and playable core tower defense loop, but balance and clarity are especially important for this type of game. Early Access allows us to gather feedback on tower balance, difficulty progression, challenge rules, route variety, and late-game pressure while continuing to improve the overall experience.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Desktop Monsters to remain in Early Access for approximately six months. This estimate may change depending on player feedback, balancing needs, technical issues, and the amount of refinement required before the full release.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to offer a more polished and better-balanced experience, with improved onboarding, clearer interface feedback, refined difficulty progression, additional strategic variety, quality-of-life improvements, and further technical optimization. We will also continue refining existing modes, challenge configurations, enemies, towers, and desktop layouts based on player feedback. These plans may evolve during development.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version provides a complete playable tower defense experience. It currently includes the 10-wave Standard Route, the 15-wave Extended Route, Endless / Overtime play, multiple challenge configurations, three towers with distinct roles, several enemy types, the Trojan Core boss encounter, five desktop layouts, tower upgrades, and local progress and record tracking.

The main gameplay loop is fully playable from start to finish. However, players may still encounter balance issues, presentation rough edges, and minor bugs while we continue improving the game.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the base price unchanged throughout Early Access and the full release. If the scope of the game expands significantly, we may review the price and announce any planned change in advance. Regional pricing and promotional discounts may vary.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to monitor Steam Community discussions, reviews, and player reports throughout Early Access. Feedback about bugs, difficulty, tower balance, challenge rules, interface clarity, and quality-of-life improvements will help guide development priorities. We will share important progress and update information through Steam announcements.

About This Game

The desktop is spiraling out of control.

Desktop Monsters is a compact 2D tower defense game set on a stylized computer desktop. Build digital defenses, manage limited resources, and protect the Desktop Node against increasingly dangerous waves of bugs, pop-ups, cache fragments, malware slimes, and malicious processes.

BUILD YOUR DIGITAL DEFENSE

Choose from three towers with distinct roles:

• Cursor Turret — Delivers steady, reliable damage.

• Firewall Node — Slows enemies and helps control crowded routes.

• Antivirus Beam — A costly late-game defense that chains its attack between multiple targets.

Position each tower carefully, balance immediate protection against long-term upgrades, and adapt your strategy before the next wave arrives.

CHOOSE YOUR ROUTE

• Standard Route — A focused 10-wave campaign built around the core tower defense loop.

• Extended Route — A longer 15-wave campaign with more demanding late-game enemy combinations.

• Endless / Overtime — Continue defending after the regular route ends and see how long your setup can survive.

Additional challenge configurations, including Budget Lock, Cache Surge, and Archive Pressure, change the rules and force you to rethink familiar strategies.

FACE THE TROJAN CORE

The Trojan Core is protected by active Shield Processes. Destroy the supporting processes first, then concentrate your defenses on the exposed core before it overwhelms the Desktop Node.

DEFEND ACROSS DIFFERENT DESKTOPS

Battle across five desktop layouts: Desktop Classic, Laptop Workspace, Ultrawide Desk, Compact Monitor, and Large Desktop. Each layout changes route spacing, tower coverage, and the way pressure builds around your defenses.

Build efficiently, respond to each threat, and keep the Desktop Node online.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI was used to create pre-generated promotional artwork for the Steam store page and Steam library, including capsule, header, hero, and library artwork. The generated artwork was based on the developer's original game concepts and gameplay references. All outputs were manually reviewed, selected, edited, composited, resized, and verified by the developer before publication. Gameplay screenshots and the gameplay trailer use actual in-game footage. The game does not generate AI content during gameplay and does not connect to external AI services.
