Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Supply, encirclements, and the AI only show their flaws under real play. Early Access lets us tune them with the community and build the Soviet campaign alongside it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 12–18 months, depending on feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“A Soviet campaign
New historical and speculative battles
Better AI and balance
Localization into different languages”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable. The German campaign is complete, with over 30 historical and speculative battles. All systems on this page are in the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through Discord and the Steam forums. Bug reports, balance feedback, and historical corrections go straight into development.”

About This Game

Field Orders: Eastern Front is a real-time operational wargame of World War II on the Eastern Front: Germany against the Soviet Union. Your units are regiments, divisions, corps and armies. Your battlefield is the real ground they fought over. And your real enemy is often distance: every attack runs out of fuel, shells and men somewhere down the road.

FROM A SINGLE REGIMENT TO THE WHOLE FRONT

Zoom seamlessly from one regiment holding a village to the entire front line. Up close, you see each unit's strength, cover, ammunition and morale. Pull back, and the map turns into a staff map: corps and armies, the shape of the front, and each side's strength written across the ground.

SUPPLY DECIDES WHO WINS

Supply flows from depots along real roads to the units that need it. Roads carry it far; mud, forest and swamp do not. Push too far ahead and your spearhead runs dry. Cut the enemy's roads and his divisions fight on what they carry, until they are a pocket waiting to be closed.

  • A living supply network that follows the roads and the front
  • Encirclements that cut whole armies off from their supply
  • Ammunition and fuel measured in loads and litres, not abstract points

GIVE ORDERS, NOT CLICKS

Tell a division where to go, draw its route, or set the line it must hold, and it fights its own way there. Hold, dig in, break contact, march on foot, call down artillery fire missions, and send your air regiments to guard, scout, bomb or escort. Before every battle you deploy your forces behind your own lines. What you know of the enemy depends on your reconnaissance.

HISTORICAL GROUND, HISTORICAL ARMIES

Every battle is fought on a map of the real terrain, with its rivers, forests, towns and roads. Historical battles follow the orders of battle drawn from the record; speculative ones ask what might have happened if the war had taken another turn.

  • Over 30 historical and speculative battles, from Brest and the Luga Line through the Kiev pocket and Moscow to Stalingrad and Kursk
  • Fronts of up to several armies and dozens of divisions per side
  • Every battle closes with a newsreel cut from archival footage

A CAMPAIGN ARMY THAT REMEMBERS

In the campaign your army carries over from battle to battle, with its losses, its veterans and its officers. Between battles, in your headquarters you:

  • Refit divisions, buy replacements and upgrade their equipment
  • Organize your own divisions, corps and air groups
  • Promote officers who earn their experience in the field, and decorate them for it
  • Spend career points to shape your commander: economy, training, organization, reconnaissance, influence

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI tools were used to enhance the quality of authentic WW2-era photographs used in the game.
