Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core game is currently fully playable and stable. We chose Early Access to gather genuine feedback from players and creators as we expand into additional game modes, enrich the item ecosystem, and develop our modding tools <3”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We anticipate the game will remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 8 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Currently, MUD the BOX already features a complete creative sandbox mode, while our survival mode, Lua API, Steam Workshop integration, and community support systems are still under active development. We plan to continuously refine and implement these systems throughout Early Access on our path to the full release.

For the full version, we plan to focus on expanding and optimizing the following:

1. More native in-game items

2. Turing-complete circuitry system: Providing extensible logic components to empower players to build complex computing and automated mechanisms in-game

3. Diverse game modes: Exploring and introducing additional gameplay modes (most auxiliary modes will be shipped as open-source built-in mods for community reference and modification)

4. Comprehensive Modding support:

Providing richer Lua API bindings to allow creators to freely implement custom items, entities, and unique rulesets

Providing Native FFI support for performance-critical, demanding modding scenarios

Supporting flexible, non-pixel rendering pipelines to grant modders greater visual and stylistic freedom

5. Ongoing performance optimization: Ensuring high framerates and stability during massive builds and heavy mod loads

6. Community-driven development: Listening closely to player feedback and actively integrating top-voted ideas and suggestions from the community!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version already offers a fully playable pixel-physics sandbox experience. It supports multi-material interactions and simulations, object construction, circuitry and mechanical connections, as well as map saving and loading. Players can enjoy built-in experimental and challenge stages, or author their own custom game modes using Lua map scripting.

In addition, the game features an experimental survival mode and a large-scale testing grounds mode. We are actively refining the game—particularly its performance in complex scenarios, physics simulation stability, UI polish, and expanded content for experimental modes—which is why it has not yet reached the completeness intended for the final release...

The demo will keep getting regular updates, so feel free to grab it and check it out anytime!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes! To thank the early players who support us during Early Access, the game will be available at a lower, discounted price during this period.

As we continue to expand and polish content leading up to the full release, the price will moderately increase to reflect the expanded scope. Players who purchase the game during Early Access will receive all subsequent full-version updates at no extra cost!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Everyone is welcome to post feedback in the Steam Community Discussions at any time, or email me directly at sout233@163.com. As our player community grows, I may also set up an official Discord channel!!!”

About This Game

This is a 2D sandbox game based on pixel physics simulation. You can freely place sand, water, lava, plants, creatures, and various physical entities, observing their changes under gravity, fluids, combustion, explosions, and collisions.

Chop trees, build, destroy, design circuits, trigger chain explosions, or just create a simple ecosystem...

  • Build, plant, and then... destroy it: Weave a harmonious ecological loop with your own hands...or let it all come crashing down in whatever (destructive) way you like best.

  • Craft a balanced ecosystem with your own hands

  • Or a chaotic one...

  • Automation and circuits: Programmable components are still on the way...

  • Art is an explosion!

In addition, the game's advanced console will be open to all players and enabled by default, allowing you to change game time / physics parameters at will!

Currently, the game is still in the development stage. In the following versions, we will continuously bring:

💡 More insane items | Richer physics simulation | Smoother performance optimization | A challenging survival mode | Even an online multiplayer mode!

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains mild cartoon/pixel-style violence. Players can use tools or environmental effects to attack small characters, animals, and other creatures. When creatures die, the game may show pixelated ragdoll physics, red blood effects, explosions, burning, falling, and collision-based impacts.
The game does not contain sexual content, sexual acts, sexual assault/non-consensual sexual behavior, drug or alcohol abuse, or self-harm themes. The violent content is mainly part of the sandbox physics and destruction simulation, and is presented in a non-realistic pixel-art style.
