What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to build GRIMLINE alongside players. Early Access lets us test and improve the tension of combat and exploration, the extraction economy, train and survivor systems, route progression, and the variety and pacing of stations with real player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 12–18 months. This estimate may change as we evaluate player feedback, production scope, and the quality required for the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to expand the railway network, station and event variety, enemy and loot diversity, survivor stories, train-base construction and management, route progression, accessibility, balance, and overall polish. The final scope will be refined during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is in active development. The current build focuses on the core foundations of combat, exploration, looting, inventory pressure, extraction, death and recovery, and train-based progression. Content volume, balance, presentation, and long-term systems are still being expanded.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to increase the price when the game leaves Early Access to reflect the additional content and improvements. Any pricing change will be communicated in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will use Steam discussions, playtest feedback, bug reports, and player surveys to guide priorities. We are especially interested in feedback on combat tension, resource pressure, station pacing, extraction decisions, train management, accessibility, and technical performance.”

About This Game

GRIMLINE is a top-down single-player zombie survival extraction game. You play as railway electrical technician Mara Voss, who restores an abandoned emergency train and turns it into a moving refuge through the infected ruins.

Enter the stations. Make it back alive.

Every stop is a dangerous expedition. Search buildings and industrial sites, manage limited ammunition, medicine and carrying space, and decide when the extra supplies are worth the risk. The farther you push, the harder it may be to return.

Build a home that keeps moving

What you recover changes life aboard the train. Store supplies, restore essential equipment, expand the cars and help rescued survivors recover and take on meaningful work. Fuel, medical capacity and maintenance determine which routes remain open.

Follow the line into the unknown

Mara is searching for her missing brother, but every signal reveals other people and communities struggling along the railway. Choose what the train can carry, who it can help, and what risks its growing community should share.

GRIMLINE is planned for Early Access. Development will expand the route network, station variety, train systems, survivors, progression and story with community feedback.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Contains frequent stylized violence against infected enemies, non-realistic blood effects, corpses, and occasional graphic injury or dismemberment. The game also includes dark post-apocalyptic themes and scenes intended to create fear and tension.
