What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“See our roadmap here: https://www.archmagerises.com/roadmap
Archmage Rises is still under development, but we have now hit a milestone in our development that we have an engaging, fun, and playable build, and we are ready to share this with the world!

We chose to release in early access because there is still many new features of the game we will implement, and including players in this process helps us focus on developing the best possible and most fun mage simulator experience!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“See our roadmap here: https://www.archmagerises.com/roadmap
Approximately 12 months. The game itself is engaging and playable with essential core features developed, but we have a much larger vision for the game that we'd like to build out. Once we've completed these (what we internally consider must have) features, we will move into our official 1.0 release.

And we still have much more planned beyond our 1.0 release!”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main differences between Early Access and the full version will include:
  • More content/lore that can be utilized by our world generation system
  • 144+ more character creation starts
  • Much deeper and involved dynamic quest system
  • More robust world economy system, including founding a town and constructing buildings
  • 13+ win conditions based on Wealth, Scholarship, Power, Politics, and Relationship
  • Item and equipment crafting and enchanting
  • Unique legendary creatures to hunt
  • Research and discover hidden artifacts left by great people of old
  • Hobbies like Toy or Firework crafting
  • Bounties, crime and punishment systems
  • Kingdoms, Kings, and royal edicts which change the game world
  • NPC rivals to ally or destroy
  • Factions like the Conclave or Renegades to join, rank up, control or destroy
  • 7 Noble houses to ally or defy
  • Fully developed Mage Tower building system with 30+ room types
  • Expanded NPC interactions, including romance
  • 8 more races of monsters to combat
  • 50+ rebalanced spells, each with valuable upgrades to research
  • Army battles
  • More items, weapons, armor, spells, etc
  • UI improvements and optimizations
  • Mounts that you can ride and bring into combat

Community feedback will be very important as we continue to flesh out the world inside Archmage Rises!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is a solid mage simulator in it's own right. The game begins with our world generation tool that procedurally generates a unique world full of unique towns, NPCs, merchants, dungeons, quests, etc.

You can:
  • Meet and build relationships with various NPCs, shop keepers, etc
  • Hunt and eliminate monsters and vagabonds roaming the land
  • Explore and loot dungeons
  • Mine and sell resources
  • Take on and complete quests
  • Progress your skills and become a powerful mage
  • Want to become a merchant by buying/selling items to make a profit? You can do that
  • Want to become a thief, stealing from various stores and selling it in other towns for a profit? You can do that too

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, there will likely be a price increase after Early Access because of the many new features we plan to add into the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Our 10,000+ fan community to date has been amazing and already vitally shaped Archmage Rises. We want to continue this relationship formally through the whole lifecycle of the game. We are very active in engaging our players both our Community Hub here on Steam, as well as in our dedicated Discord server which can be found here: https://discord.gg/DUE2NYPrcQ”

Reviews

“This is one of the games on Steam that I'm most interested in.”
Splattercatgaming

“It's VERY reminiscent of a solo DND game. The pen and paper kind, not the banging Astarion kind. I've genuinely really repeatedly enjoyed dying in obscurity in surprisingly rich procedurally generated worlds.”
Jesse Jerdak (Actor, TTRPG Writer & Cosplayer)

About This Game

DISCLAIMER: This game is currently in active development with many new features still to be released. We are highly dedicated to the continued development of this game and release new content and features regularly. Please read the Early Access FAQs and our development roadmap below for more info before purchasing.

Born with magic in your bones, use your wits and power to navigate a simulated fantasy world - dynamic, alive, and increasingly dangerous. Grow in might as a mage in an open-world RPG inspired by Dragonlance, full of kingdoms that will rise and fall, economies that can boom or bust, and monstrous creatures that can overwhelm the land if left unchecked.

Immerse yourself in a player-driven story that evolves based on your decisions. Like in pen and paper games, every choice is yours and every choice can change the world. Will you earn the trust of the Conclave only to betray them later? Will you choose a life of crime, stealing from merchants and living on the run? Will you build friendships and rivalries with your companions from mage school? Will you forego a life of magic to pursue the simple existence of a trader? Or will you strive to ascend the heights of power, for good or ill?

The dynamic and living land of Vaelun reacts to your deeds, giving you the unique opportunity to shape the story and the world around you. Every choice you make can have real and far-reaching consequences for all those who dwell in this world. Pursue power and prominence, eliminate monstrous threats, or spend your days harvesting resources. Serve and protect, or dominate and destroy. Will you become the world's deliverer, or its destroyer? The decision is yours.

Create a brand new, procedurally-generated world with its own history, inhabitants, towns, dungeons, monsters, and more. Then explore that world and make it your own as it responds to your actions and decisions. Every life you live as a mage is a unique and personalized experience.
