What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Onmal will begin as a free public alpha. Feedback from different Windows PCs and Macs is needed to improve recognition, translation, subtitle usability and game performance.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We currently expect approximately 6-12 months after the Early Access launch. This is an estimate, not a fixed release date; accuracy, stability and player feedback may change the schedule.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to improve recognition, translation quality, stability and resource use, validate more language pairs, and expand voice support where the recognition engine supports it. Experimental model packs and language variants may change during Early Access. We will decide the transition to the full 1.0 version separately based on testing and user feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Version 0.3.0 is being prepared as the first free public Early Access alpha for Windows 11 and macOS 15. Korean-English audio translation, team voice and story modes, glossaries, offline models and the redesigned subtitle interface are implemented. Text translation offers 103 language selections, an optional experimental offline model pack and personal API options; actual support varies by engine and some variants require an API. Translation quality is not validated for every language. Steam installation, live audio and game-performance validation remain pending.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Onmal is free during Early Access. We plan to keep the core app free in the full version, without usage limits. Optional translation using your own API key is billed by the provider under its terms.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Please report bugs and suggestions through Steam Discussions. Include the game, audio setup, languages and reproduction steps. Feedback will guide fixes and priorities.”

About This Software

Read game conversations in your language

Onmal is a free companion that turns teammates' speech and story dialogue into translated subtitles. Version 0.3.0 is being prepared for a simultaneous Windows and Mac Early Access release.

Offline Korean ↔ English by default

Bundled models process speech recognition and Korean ↔ English translation on your computer. Local processing needs no account or personal API key. Defaults remain automatic model selection and partial subtitles off.

Team voice and story dialogue

Choose the situation you are listening to. Each mode saves its glossary preference and applies it to both recognition and translation. Story mode leaves tactical terminology off by default.

Simple controls, detailed settings

Choose an audio source and languages, then start or stop translation. Adjust subtitle size, position, width, lines and background, or preview subtitles without audio. The interface follows your device language and offers 31 UI languages; some translations are still under review. Windowed and borderless windowed use is recommended.

Multilingual text and optional model packs

Text translation offers 103 language selections from Steam's language list. Each language indicates offline availability, required model packs, personal API requirements and experimental status. A selectable language does not mean its speech recognition or translation quality has been validated.

Optionally install the M2M100 418M INT8 and Noto font pack to expand offline text translation for supported languages. Download size and required space appear before installation. Simplified/traditional Chinese conversion and right-to-left subtitles are supported. The bundled Korean ↔ English models remain the default.

Optional personal API and your own speech as text

Using a personal API sends the text to your chosen provider and requires internet access; provider charges may apply. Speech recognition stays local. The existing Windows shortcut for translating your own speech into text to paste into chat remains available.

Free 0.3.0 Early Access

0.3.0 is being prepared as a public alpha, before the final 1.0 release. Public availability follows Windows, Apple Silicon and Intel Mac build checks, installation and real audio/game validation, and Steam review. Translation quality, subtitle latency and performance alongside games are still being validated. Equal quality across every language or performance on low-end hardware is not guaranteed. Feedback will guide the beta and full release.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Onmal generates subtitles at runtime using AI models that run entirely on the user's PC (Whisper speech recognition, Opus-MT machine translation). All live generation is local; no audio or text is sent to the developer (text is sent to a third-party provider only if the user enters their own API key). Pre-generated content: 29 of the app's 31 interface translations were produced with AI (Korean and English are human-written); the app labels them as awaiting review.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11 64-bit
    • Processor: 4-core x64 CPU with AVX, AVX2, FMA and F16C
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: Integrated graphics supported. A dedicated GPU is optional.
    • Storage: 3 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Provisional minimum specification to be validated before release. Concurrent game performance on a 4-core, 8GB PC has not yet been verified. Default Korean-English processing works offline; personal API translation requires internet. Use windowed or borderless mode for game subtitles. Visual C++ 2022 Runtime is required.
    Recommended:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: A currently supported Windows 11 64-bit release, fully updated
