What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“TacBrain is a systems-driven strategy game with many interacting mechanics. Early Access will allow me to develop and refine these systems together with players under real gameplay conditions. Player feedback will be especially valuable for improving usability, balancing units and components, identifying performance issues, and determining which features provide the most engaging tactical and creative possibilities. Early Access also gives me the opportunity to expand the game gradually while maintaining a playable and stable core experience.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“ 2-3 years”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will focus on establishing and refining TacBrain’s core gameplay systems, including tactical combat, artificial intelligence, and simulation performance.

During Early Access, I plan to improve the usability, stability, balancing, and overall depth of these systems based on development progress and player feedback. I also expect to expand the range of available components, tactical options, scenarios, and supporting features, while improving presentation, onboarding, performance, and quality of life.

The full version is intended to provide a more polished, accessible, and content-rich experience, with more developed gameplay systems, a broader range of strategic possibilities, and a higher overall level of technical stability and visual refinement. The exact scope and priorities may evolve throughout Early Access as the game develops and I learn which features are most valuable to players.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version of TacBrain already includes the core gameplay systems that define the game. Players can command small groups of units in tactical battles, issue and coordinate orders through the command system, and complete mission objectives. The current unit roster is limited to the TacticalBot, the Settler (used for laying mines and other general-purpose tasks), and the AmmoTransporter. Additional units are currently in development.

The game currently features a functional tactical combat system, AI-controlled opponents, and the underlying simulation systems required to run battles in real time. Missions take place on varied battlefields and focus on different tactical objectives rather than base building or unit production.

Unit progression is also already implemented. Units can gain experience and develop over time, with surviving veterans retaining their experience between missions.

The current version is fully playable but remains in active development. The amount and variety of content, scenarios, and components, as well as balancing, user interface, onboarding, visual presentation, performance, and overall polish, will continue to be expanded and improved throughout Early Access.

The core features described in the “About This Game” section are already implemented. Please refer to that section for additional details.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to offer TacBrain at a lower price during the early stages of Early Access. The price may increase gradually as the game receives significant new content, expanded gameplay systems, and major improvements.

The final price is expected to be higher than the initial Early Access price, reflecting the broader scope and more polished state of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to involve the community through regular development updates, discussions and polls. Players will be able to share their experiences, report issues, suggest improvements, and help me identify which systems, features, and quality-of-life changes should receive particular attention.

Community polls will also allow players to vote on potential new features, additions, and development priorities. The results will play an important role in evaluating which ideas are most valuable to the community. However, final development decisions will also take technical feasibility, available resources, the overall design vision, and the needs of the wider player base into account.”

About This Game

"For those who love tactical games"

TacBrain is a tactical strategy game focused on small-scale engagements, deliberate decision-making, and a command system designed to make every order meaningful. Instead of controlling large armies at high speed, you coordinate a limited number of units in battles that unfold at a more realistic pace.

Success depends on positioning, timing, situational awareness, and the ability to anticipate enemy movement. Orders must be planned carefully, as units need time to move, react, and carry out their assigned tasks. This creates tactical situations in which preparation and coordination are just as important as firepower.

Randomized Maps and Missions

TacBrain uses partially randomized maps and mission parameters to create different tactical situations from one operation to the next. Terrain, routes, objectives, unit placement, and other mission conditions can vary, requiring you to assess each battlefield before committing to a plan.

Rather than relying exclusively on fixed scenarios, the game generates jobs with different objectives and conditions. A mission may require you to secure an area, defend a position, intercept enemy units, block a route, or complete another tactical assignment.

Randomization is intended to make missions less predictable and encourage players to adapt their tactics instead of memorizing a single solution.

A Different Approach to Command

TacBrain’s command system is designed around issuing clear tactical instructions rather than constantly micromanaging every movement. Orders are transmitted through an uplink system that provides limited time windows in which new commands can be issued.

During each uplink window, you must assess the current situation, assign orders, and coordinate your units before communication is interrupted again. Between these windows, your forces continue to carry out the instructions they have already received, requiring you to anticipate developments rather than react instantly to every change on the battlefield.

Small-Scale Tactical Battles

The game concentrates on compact engagements in which individual units and decisions remain important. The limited scale makes it possible to follow the development of a battle closely and understand how specific orders affect the result.

Each mission presents a tactical problem. You must examine the terrain, identify possible threats, select suitable positions, and coordinate your forces to achieve the objective while limiting unnecessary losses.

Built for Replayability

The combination of randomized battlefields, changing mission conditions, and different tactical objectives is intended to provide replayable scenarios with varying challenges. Even when the general objective remains familiar, the surrounding circumstances may require a different approach.

Unit Experience and Persistence

Units can gain experience during missions and progress through twelve ranks. Experienced units remain available between jobs, allowing you to build up a persistent force over time instead of starting every mission with an entirely new roster. As individual units become more valuable, their deployment and preservation add a longer-term strategic dimension to each tactical engagement.

TacBrain is currently in active development. During Early Access, its systems, interface, mission variety, artificial intelligence, balancing, performance, and overall presentation are expected to evolve based on continued development and player feedback.
