What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Flames Betwixt is TCubedStudios first game. Inspired by a love for classic party-based RPGs

Our plan is for the finished game to feature one campaign with multiple acts. As those acts become complete, we may release small playtests and demos allowing you to experience the early game with you and your friends.

These moments of early feedback will be critical for us to make sure our game is enjoyable to play for our players. A game with many skills will need balance to ensure it isn't too easy to play. But also not too difficult that meta builds are encourage. We want everything to feel fair, fun, and exciting. Giving the players many options to decide how they want to tackle the world. Either alone, with heroes, with their friends, or a mix!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We hope to have Flames Betwixt released by the end of 2028.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will feature an entire playable campaign, with as many skills as we can fit into the game before it becomes too much to handle!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently we have implemented many of the base systems you see in the description of the game, this includes the following:
-Working Multiplayer Co-op
-6 playable professions
-1 outpost and 2 exploration zones (zone design and art not final however)
-60+ skills across all professions
-10 quests
-Day and Night cycle
-Pet Taming for Rangers
-5 companions
-Level 1-5 content”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, but not by much. We want the game to remain affordable- priced as an indie game should be. With only a minor increase when the game is released.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have a discord page where we are actively posting development updates, and taking feedback from players based on these updates.”

About This Game

Gather your party

Flames Betwixt is an isometric co-op RPG focused on theory-crafting and party synergy, taking heavy inspiration from Guild Wars 1. (Not affiliated with ArenaNet or NCSoft, just raised on their work.)

You play as a party of up to eight. Bring your friends, and fill any empty slots with heroes you've recruited along the way.

Eight skills, and that's it

Pick a primary profession and a secondary. Between the two of them you get access to a large pool of skills. You can bring eight out of the various towns and outposts, into the open exploratory zones.

Six professions to choose from:

  • Warrior. Heavy armor, and the frontline. Builds Valor by landing hits and spends it on martial skills.

  • Ranger. Long range bow, cripples and poisions, and a beast you charmed out of the wild fighting by your side.

  • Paladin. Hits hard with holy magic, enchants the party, and heals others while also protecting the backline

  • Arcanist. Fire, Frost, and big numbers, but Exhaustion waiting for you if you get greedy.

  • Necromancer. Turns the corpses already on the floor into an army. Life draining curses and cold death magic

  • Voidwitch. Stacks hexes on everything, be rewarded energy for interrupting enemy spells, and summon familiars to bolster your spellcasting.

Once you set out into the world, you can't swap you build out in the field. If nobody in the party packed a resurrect, then there's a good chance nobody is getting back up.

Your primary sets your attribute caps, your passives, and the armor you wear. Your secondary is whatever other profession you would like. A Warrior/Necromancer and Necromancer/Warrior could have very different approaches to combat.

You cap at level 20

Reaching the level 20 cap is a brisk journey. Attributes max out at rank 12 for your primary and secondary, meaning every point matters. Once capped, progression goes horizontal. Instead of endlessly grinding for higher stats, you hunt down new skills, try out new profession pairings, and discover fresh synergies with modifications to armor and weapons via inscriptions and glyphs.
The XP stops going up, but the options keep going.

Beneath the surface is a deep combat system: conditions, hexes, enchantments, interrupts, and energy management. Watch for enemy cast bars to interrupt their biggest threats, and strip away their key enchantments to turn the tide.

Command your party with tactical prioritization

Every hero runs on gambits, which are if-then statements you decide yourself. They're checked in order and the first match wins. If an Ally drops below half health, your companion will heal them. If an Ally goes down, revive them. Nothing else going on? Attack the nearest foe, or whatever the player is attacking

You can change any hero's skills, attributes and gambits at an outpost. But in the field they're stuck with what you chose for them, same as you.

Nightfall

There's a persistent day/night clock running the whole time. At night, enemies have more health and hit harder, more varied enemies may spawn, but the loot is better to make up for it. Some items may even increase in power at night. Push through it or wait for morning.

Co-op Campaign

Host a campaign for you and your friends to drop straight into 8 party slots. For any slot nobody takes, a hero can fill. Or play the entire thing solo running seven companions yourself!

The world

The Flame is going out, and the fell are awakening. You have been summoned from beyond the Augur's Rift. The Order was there to guide you, but none can say who you were before. Discover the world you and your party members have been thrown into, and the secrets that lie beyond.

About the Developer
Flames Betwixt is a solo passion project. I loved the deep theory-crafting and horizontal progression of classic 2000s RPGs, and I wanted to build a modern co-op experience that captured that same magic. Every line of code, design choice, and hero gambit is built by one person trying to keep that specific flame alive.

All assets and art used in this project were made by real people. No AI Art was used. Art is human-expression, and being human is all we have.
