What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Platform Nation already has a complete playable campaign, but its interacting systems create a wide range of unexpected economic, political, and tactical situations. Early Access will help me identify where players become confused, which strategies feel rewarding, where pacing drags, and which systems need clearer feedback.

The game has grown rapidly, and feedback from players who approach it without prior knowledge will be especially valuable for improving onboarding, balance, stability, and the first-hour experience. Early Access also gives me room to expand the game’s events and refine its systems without pretending that every part of the platform is already seaworthy.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Platform Nation to remain in Early Access for approximately 12 months. This estimate may change depending on player feedback, technical issues, and the amount of refinement the game needs before it feels ready for a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access, I plan to focus primarily on clarity, reliability, balance, and depth rather than simply adding more systems.

Planned improvements include expanded tutorials and contextual guidance, additional political and building-related events, improved campaign pacing, further balance work across the economy and technology tree, refined diplomacy and combat presentation, additional quality-of-life options, performance improvements, bug fixes, and continued visual and audio polish.

I also plan to improve how the game explains the consequences of the player’s decisions while preserving surprise, experimentation, and multiple possible campaign outcomes. The final scope will be shaped partly by what Early Access players find most engaging or confusing.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version contains a playable single-player campaign beginning on an almost empty artificial platform near Florida.

Players can expand the platform, construct and staff buildings, manage power, water, food, materials, fuel, research, population, stability, international relations, and money. The current version includes trade, tourism, manufacturing, agriculture, petroleum production, banking, media, philanthropy, diplomacy, nuclear development, artificial intelligence research, military defenses, naval attacks, Marine encounters, and player-controlled FPV drones.

It also includes illustrated political events, multiple save slots, several victory paths, and different campaign endings influenced by how the player uses power throughout the game.

The main areas still being improved are onboarding, balance, pacing, accessibility, performance, presentation, and the correction of bugs and edge cases created by the game’s interacting systems.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I expect the price to increase when Platform Nation leaves Early Access, reflecting the additional content, refinement, stability, and polish added during development. Any pricing changes will be communicated in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan to use Steam discussions, player reviews, bug reports, and direct playtest feedback to guide development.

I am especially interested in learning where new players become confused, which economic and political strategies emerge naturally, which events are memorable, where campaigns become too slow or too easy, and whether the consequences of player decisions feel understandable and meaningful.

Development updates will explain what is changing and why. Community feedback will strongly influence balance, usability, tutorials, event development, and quality-of-life improvements, while the game’s central creative direction and themes will remain consistent.”

About This Game

BUILD A NATION FROM ALMOST NOTHING

You begin with an empty artificial platform off the coast of Florida, a small treasury, and the extremely reasonable conviction that you should be allowed to found your own country.

Expand the platform tile by tile. Generate power, secure water and food, attract citizens, assign workers, research new technologies, construct industries, and transform a lonely slab in the ocean into a functioning sovereign state.

Platform Nation is a satirical single-player strategy game combining city building, resource management, political simulation, trade, diplomacy, and real-time combat.

MAKE THE PLATFORM FUNCTION

Every building is part of a larger system.

Build solar arrays and power plants to keep the nation running. Operate desalination plants, farms, factories, oil infrastructure, research facilities, banks, docks, tourism businesses, media operations, military defenses, and increasingly questionable nuclear projects.

Citizens must be assigned where they are needed. A brilliant economic plan can still collapse because nobody is operating the power plant.

Manage resources including:

  • Treasury

  • Materials

  • Power and fuel

  • Water and food

  • Research

  • Population

  • Stability

  • Followers

  • International relations

BUILD AN ECONOMY, OR SOMETHING RESEMBLING ONE

Trade for critical supplies. Mine cryptocurrency. Attract tourists. Refine petroleum. Manufacture goods. Build an offshore bank. Grow a global media following. Invest enormous amounts of money and confront the unsettling difference between a million, a billion, and a trillion dollars.

Platform Nation’s economy begins with desperate improvisation and can grow into a machine of extraordinary wealth, influence, or instability.

How that machine operates is up to you.

GOVERN THROUGH CHOICES AND CONSEQUENCES

Political crises, strange visitors, labor disputes, international demands, cults, financial schemes, humanitarian emergencies, and other complications arrive through illustrated choice events.

Your decisions can affect resources, citizens, diplomatic relations, future events, and the direction of the entire campaign.

Some choices solve a problem.

Others create a much funnier problem several months later.

DEFEND YOUR SOVEREIGNTY

Foreign pressure does not always remain diplomatic.

Build turrets and drone ports, train citizens as reservists, and prepare defenses before an intervention begins. Launch FPV drones directly, repel hostile gunboats, and protect the nation you constructed.

Combat is powerful, immediate, and destructive. Citizens can panic, buildings can be damaged, and violence can produce consequences that cannot be converted neatly back into numbers.

DECIDE WHAT POWER IS FOR

Platform Nation is not only about whether your country survives. It is about what kind of country you create.

Pursue wealth, influence, military security, nuclear power, philanthropy, technological progress, or some unstable mixture of all six.

Eventually, your civilization may construct the First Model, an artificial intelligence trained not by what you told it, but by what you repeatedly demonstrated.

Your campaign becomes its education.

What it learns determines what comes next.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Platform Nation was created with assistance from generative AI tools. Pre-generated AI-assisted content includes portions of the game’s artwork, interface assets, 3D asset development, written event content, audio, and marketing materials. All generated material was selected, reviewed, edited, and integrated by the solo developer. The game does not generate AI content live during gameplay.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Platform Nation contains recurring stylized violence and gore. Combat may depict gunfire, explosions, red blood, visible corpses, and explosive dismemberment with detached body parts. Soldiers, civilians, and other human characters may be killed during attacks or as a result of player actions.

The game also contains dark political satire involving war, crime, capitalism, cults, authoritarianism, nuclear weapons, and other mature social themes. Violence is presented as consequential rather than celebratory.

The game does not contain nudity, sexual content, sexual assault, suicide, self-harm, or depictions of drug abuse.
