What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Knight's Vigil is a complete, playable game today — three classes, nine handcrafted maps across three story chapters, full boss fights, and a permanent equipment/Armory system you keep between runs. We're releasing in Early Access because the things that make a roguelite great — weapon and passive balance, difficulty curve, boss fight pacing, and how satisfying the endless/rebirth loop feels at high difficulty — are best tuned with real player data, not just solo playtesting. We're committed to active development throughout Early Access: regular balance passes, new equipment and maps, and fixes driven directly by what players report. We won't consider this "done" until the difficulty modes, boss fights, and progression loop hold up across a wide range of playstyles.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3 months or hopefully less.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to build on the current Early Access foundation (3 classes, 25 maps across 3 story chapters, a full Armory/equipment system, and infinite rebirth scaling) with substantial additional content and polish. Specifically, we plan to:

Continue expanding the number of playable maps and story chapters well beyond what's in Early Access today, each with its own boss, hazards, and unique equipment set.
Add new enemy types and boss fights alongside every new map, rather than reusing existing ones.
Finish polishing animations and visual effects across all weapons, spells, and armor so every class feels equally complete.
Continue balance passes on weapons, passives, and difficulty scaling based on community feedback gathered during Early Access.
Fix bugs and rough edges as they're reported, working toward a stable, fully polished experience at full release.
We don't want to lock in exact numbers or dates this early — the above reflects our current direction and may evolve as we listen to player feedback throughout Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable start to finish right now — this is not a demo or vertical slice. Currently included: 3 playable classes (Knight, a melee fighter; Mage, a ranged spellcaster; Citizen, a hybrid who can pick up both melee and ranged weapons), each with multiple selectable visual styles; 9 handcrafted maps across 3 story chapters, each ending in its own boss fight with unique telegraphed attacks; a full permanent Armory and equipment collection system with rarities, unlockable weapons, armor, and wands that persist across runs; a rebirth system unlocking progressively harder infinite play once a chapter is cleared; 3 difficulty modes (Easy, Normal, Hardcore); and multiple save slots with full settings and audio controls. See the "About This Game" section above for the full feature list — everything there is already implemented and playable today. What's still actively in progress is balance tuning, additional content, and polish based on player feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. this is meant to be a cheaper game in terms of price only. This is a game fo the smaller Indie community, we will never change our praces to somethin g that isn't accesible to everyone.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback directly shapes what we work on next — which weapons and passives feel over- or under-powered, which boss fights need clearer telegraphs, where the difficulty curve feels unfair versus challenging, and what new maps or equipment players most want. We read and respond to Steam Community discussions and reviews on this store page, and reports posted there go straight into our task list for upcoming updates.”

About This Game

Knights Vigil is a single-player, 2D medieval survival roguelite. Choose a class, fight through enemy waves on handcrafted maps, and defeat a boss at the end of each story chapter. Build a different loadout each run, collect equipment for your permanent Armory, and keep pushing into harder challenges.

Play as the melee-focused Knight, the ranged Mage, or the Citizen, a hybrid who can use both melee and ranged weapons. The current Early Access version includes nine handcrafted maps across three story chapters, with a boss at the end of each chapter. Boss attacks are telegraphed so you can learn their patterns and react.

Collect weapons, armor, and wands of different rarities, unlock equipment that persists between runs, and experiment with abilities, passives, and weapon evolutions. After clearing a chapter, rebirth progression opens increasingly difficult infinite play. Choose Easy, Normal, or Hardcore difficulty to suit the challenge you want. The game also includes multiple save slots and audio and settings controls.

Early Access development is focused on balance, additional content, bug fixes, and polish shaped by player feedback. The features above describe the current playable version; plans for future additions are described in the Early Access section.
