About This Game

Books for Bad Neighbors

It's 199X. This is the only bookshop for forty miles, and you work the counter now. The register is old, the computer screen glows orange, and the mail comes every day whether you want it or not.

A priest hears the confession. A doctor sees the wound. You get a list of what they read at two in the morning, and it tells you more than both of them put together.

The work is simple

Order new books every day. Read the letters. Find the books you have. Pack the boxes. Hit your quota, close the shop. Then do it again tomorrow.

What the supplier sells changes every week, and some books sell out and never come back, so what you can give people is not always your choice.

Fill enough orders for one person and their letters get longer. They start telling you things. By then you've read enough of their mail to finish their sentences.

Some orders you should not fill

You still have a quota to hit, and if you say no to someone, they will want to know why, and they know where you work.

The shop closes at six. You walk home the same way every night.

  • Multiple mysteries to uncover, one order at a time
