A Science-Fiction roguelike where you design the aliens

Mote is a sci-fi roguelike where you get to decide what the aliens are like. Create squad members with ultraviolet vision, echolocation, electroreception, and even stranger senses. Determine their size, shape, biology, abilities, and weaknesses. They might be smaller than a housecat, as large as a personnel carrier, or built for environments that are deadly to most living beings.

Craft every member of your party, or recruit from dozens of alien species drawn from across the vast Mote universe. Combine unusual bodies, specialized senses, and powerful abilities to create a team unlike any other.

An Unforgiving Tactical Challenge

Once you have built your squad arm them with the best weapons, armor, and equipment you can salvage. Study each squad member’s strengths and account for their limitations. Pair powerful specialists with versatile generalists who can protect them, guide them, or compensate for the things they cannot do.

Equip close-combat fighters to engage dangerous enemies. Position ranged combatants where they can strike from safety. Use unusual senses to detect threats, navigate hostile environments, and uncover opportunities that other creatures would miss.

In the harsh anarchy of post-Collapse civilization, your squad must adapt or die.

There is no going back. Runs cannot be restored after a total party death, and saving quits the game.

As your squad fights, trains, and explores, they will discover hundreds of enhancements, abilities, weapons, and ancient artifacts. Use what you recover to strengthen your survivors, transform their roles, and prepare them for greater threats.

Every new discovery gives you another avenue to customize your squad and another difficult choice.

No two missions are the same

Mote has a “procedural plot” system, meaning the missions your squad can accept, and their consequences, will be different in every game. Your choices shape the Universe even after one game is over.

Factions will rise or fall. Civilizations will recover, transform, or disappear. The consequences of every run will influence the future worlds and stories yet to be told.
