What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“XvO Rogue is built on a football simulation, and the moment-to-moment game of calling plays, building your deck, and winning a drive already plays the way I want it to. Roguelikes need macro balance too though. The economy between games, the difficulty curve across a season, and how 32 teams and 150+ cards stack up against each other over long, multi-year runs. That's something no amount of internal testing tunes as well as wider networks of real runs do.

Early Access lets us put the game in players' hands and tune it with the community instead of guessing. Uniquely, the game can record anonymous, opt-in per-play data of the call you made, the matchups on the field, and the result, specifically so I can balance with evidence. I'd rather ship a game that's genuinely fun to play now and get the numbers right alongside the community.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Current target is until the end of 2026”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The biggest difference I am working toward is balance. Early Access is needed to tune the macro game, the difficulty curve, and the relative strength of teams, cards, and coaching upgrades across full multi-season runs using real player data.

Beyond balance, I plan to:

expand the card catalog and deepen each team's distinct identity,
add quality-of-life and interface polish informed by how people actually play,
refine progression and the meta-layer between runs,
broaden content and modes where it strengthens replayability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“xvorogue is fully playable start to finish today: you can draft a team, build a deck, play a full season through the playoffs, and carry a run across multiple years or into infinite mode. The core loop of calling plays, developing your roster, and sculpting a build is in good shape and, I think, genuinely fun.

What's still in progress is macro balance: tuning the economy between games, the difficulty curve, and how teams, cards, and upgrades measure up against each other over long runs. That's the main focus of Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Two ways, and the first is maybe unusual for the genre. With players' consent, the game records anonymous per-play telemetry including the play you called, the ratings and matchups on the field, and how it turned out. Because balance questions are fundamentally statistical ("is this card too strong at All-Pro? does the economy tighten too fast in year three?"), that data lets me tune with evidence instead of hunches. It's opt-in and anonymous by design.

Alongside that, I plan to stay close to the community the usual ways: reading the Steam discussions and other channels, taking bug reports and feedback directly, and shipping regular balance and content updates that respond to what players find. If you tell me a build feels unbeatable or a team feels weak, I want to see it in the data and fix it.”
