About This Game

Backrooms: Archive is a text-driven, light-strategy RPG roguelite set in the Backrooms.

Take note: this is no ordinary exercise.

An operation codenamed OP7355608 caused the entrances to the Backrooms to spiral out of control.

To uncover the cause of the disaster, the Investigation Department of E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E.—the agency responsible for regulating and containing anomalous transit—built an extraordinary system known as the Backrooms Archive. Within it, failed expeditions can be reviewed, compared, and pieced together into a greater record.

You are a simulation tester assigned to the E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E. Investigation Department. Enter the labyrinth reconstructed by the AI “Aria,” relive OP7355608 again and again, investigate every anomaly you encounter, search for supplies and exits, and bring back whatever valuable materials, clues, and archive records you can.

Assemble your investigation team. Choose a target level, bring companions you can trust, decide which limited equipment is worth carrying—

Then step inside.

Assemble Your Investigation Team

Before every operation, you must decide which level to enter, who will accompany you, and how to distribute your limited equipment.

Every character has their own strengths, growth path, and clues they may be uniquely suited to uncover.

Third-Class Investigator Jiahao excels at staying alive.

Third-Class Investigator Asami, meanwhile, possesses such exceptional perception that the most precious resource in the Backrooms—luck itself—may decide to favor you.

No single team can prepare for every anomaly.

So know your objective. Is it survival? Profit? Or did you simply hear the weather was pleasant and decide to take a walk through the Backrooms?

Whatever brought you here, prepare accordingly. If you live long enough to read the extraction report Logistics prepared for you, we doubt you will regret it.

Choose Your Next Step Through the Labyrinth

Once inside a level, you will chart a route across a sprawling, labyrinthine map.

Environmental conditions can transform an entire expedition. They may steal your sight or grind your team into exhaustion—but they may also carry a fragrant almond mist through the halls, offering one last breath of hope when everything seems lost.

Any node may lead to something completely unexpected:

A warm camp left behind by another investigation team. The chilling remains of those who came before you. An emergency that demands careful judgment. Or perhaps one of the strange stories that has circulated through E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E. for years.

Going deeper means discovering more.

It also means leaving the safety of the exit further behind.

You must decide which risks are worth taking, which supplies must be brought home, and when it is finally time to end the investigation.

Investigators who fail to return alive are, naturally, considered unqualified.

Face the Unpredictable

The Backrooms rarely explain what anything is for.

When something strange crosses your path, investigate it, negotiate with it, go around it, take the risk—or leave immediately.

Your companions, equipment, supplies, and current condition will all shape the outcome. A seemingly harmless decision may reward you with a rare item or a new archive entry.

It may also demand a price your team cannot afford to pay.

Failure Is Part of the Investigation

Whether you escape, lose your way, or die in the Backrooms, not everything is lost.

Aria will keep the simulation running for as many cycles as necessary. She may not be able to restore every piece of equipment or every supply you carried, but she will preserve your growth and record the clues you uncovered.

The path one team failed to finish may become the intelligence that allows the next to go further.

While You Rest, E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E. Keeps Working

That is correct: personally entering the Backrooms is not the only way to accumulate resources.

The Backrooms Heart is the central core Aria uses to sustain the Archive and its endless simulations.

Awaken the Heart. Gather Qubits. Acquire new devices and recover supplies. Turn its faint pulse into a production system that never truly stops.

Even while you are away from the game, the Backrooms Heart will preserve a share of its idle output. As the Heart levels up, E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E. will issue Recovered Sample Pouches of different tiers. Tear them open and bring Liminal Coins, upgrade materials, and special collectibles back to your warehouse—everything you need to prepare for the next descent.

You may also dispatch expedition teams to levels you have already unlocked. These expeditions progress in real time, gathering resources that will be ready to collect when you return.

And yes, dispatched characters can still accompany you on regular investigations.

Why?

Because Aria says they can. Isn't that good enough?

Help Aria Complete the Backrooms Archive

As your investigation deepens, you—as an E.N.T.R.A.N.C.E. Investigation Department tester—will help us document the environments, resources, anomalous phenomena, and hidden exits found throughout the Backrooms.

Discover entrances to new levels. Piece together clues scattered across seemingly unrelated events and archive records.

What truly happened during OP7355608—the operation that swallowed Iowa and brought human civilization to the brink of collapse?

Why did the Backrooms begin invading reality?

The truth is in there.

We trust that you will uncover it for us.
