What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Warden Campaigns is being built as a flexible, system-agnostic tabletop campaign platform, and we believe the best way to continue developing it is alongside the people who will actually use it.

The core campaign creation and gameplay tools are already functional, but there are still areas we want to refine, particularly multiplayer stability, usability, performance, and the overall experience of building and running larger campaigns.

Early Access gives us the opportunity to gather real-world feedback from Dungeon Masters and players using Warden in ways we may not be able to reproduce internally. That feedback will help guide which tools need improvement, which workflows can be simplified, and where Warden should grow next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Warden Campaigns to remain in Early Access for approximately 12–18 months. This is an estimate rather than a fixed deadline, as we want development to be driven by stability, usability, and community feedback rather than releasing the full version before we believe it is ready.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Throughout Early Access, we plan to expand and refine the tools available to both Dungeon Masters and players.

Our current plans include continued improvements to multiplayer and session connectivity, campaign and encounter creation workflows, character management, world and encounter maps, automation and conditional effects, content importing and sharing, audio and communication tools, performance, accessibility, and general UI/UX.

We also plan to continue expanding Warden's system-agnostic tools so that users can create, import, and manage the rules, creatures, items, spells, characters, and other content needed for the tabletop systems they choose to play.

The full version is planned to represent a more polished, stable, and thoroughly tested version of that experience, shaped in part by feedback and priorities identified during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Warden Campaigns is currently playable and includes the core tools needed to create, organize, host, and play tabletop campaigns.

Dungeon Masters can create and manage campaign content, characters, encounters, maps, quests, NPCs, creatures, items, spells, rules, and other game data; build encounters and world maps; import and export content; and host multiplayer sessions through Steam.

Players can join hosted campaigns, manage their characters, explore maps, participate in encounters and combat, and interact with the campaign through Warden's player-facing tools.

Warden Campaigns is designed to be system-agnostic and the base application does not depend on a specific tabletop ruleset being bundled with it. Users can create their own content or import compatible content packs.

As an Early Access release, some systems are still being refined. In particular, we are continuing to improve multiplayer reliability, synchronization, performance with larger campaigns, user interface consistency, and various quality-of-life features. Bugs and incomplete edge cases should still be expected during Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan for Warden Campaigns to be offered at a lower price during Early Access. As the application becomes more complete and additional functionality is introduced, the price may increase. Any pricing changes will reflect the state and scope of Warden Campaigns at that time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is a major reason we are choosing Early Access.

We plan to actively gather feedback from Dungeon Masters and players through the Steam Community, our Discord community, bug reports, feature discussions, and direct testing feedback.

Because tabletop campaigns can vary dramatically in size, rules, play style, content, and complexity, community testing is especially valuable to Warden Campaigns. We want to understand how people actually build campaigns, what slows them down during sessions, which tools they rely on most, and where additional flexibility would be useful.

Feedback will help us prioritize bug fixes, usability improvements, multiplayer stability work, quality-of-life changes, and future development. We also plan to share development updates and use community feedback to help determine which areas of Warden should receive the most attention throughout Early Access.”
