A branching visual novel set in Tokyo, 2006. A middle-aged temp finds an android at his door who no longer wants to live. As the aftershocks of an economic crisis close in, something uncanny spreads through their life together. Themes of psychological horror and suicide. A love story, perhaps.

Infos zum Spiel

Tokyo Bartleby is a multi-ending visual novel centered on reading, dialogue choices, and a branching narrative.

Tokyo, 2006. One morning, a middle-aged temp worker at Toshima Trading finds a damaged android outside his apartment. She has fled the company that owns her. She refuses to return—and she no longer wishes to live. He takes her in, beginning an uneasy life together.

By day, he endures workplace harassment, repetitive labor, and mounting pressure inside a company in decline. At home, he shares meals, chores, and conversations with an android capable of playing the ideal companion, yet constantly troubled by an urge toward self-destruction. As cracks begin to form beneath their ordinary routine, hallucinations intrude upon reality, and the truth of her origin gradually comes into view.

Read the story from the protagonist’s perspective and make choices during everyday conversations, workplace conflicts, and pivotal events. Different responses affect the characters’ interactions, the information revealed, and the branches that follow, ultimately leading the story toward multiple endings.

This game contains recurring discussions of depression, suicidal ideation, and specific methods of suicide, as well as disturbing descriptions and psychological horror. Player discretion is advised.

For now, let us call it a love story.
