What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Crownfront is an actively developing project that I believe has significant potential to be something much bigger than it is. For this reason, I decided to go for Early Access so that I can share the game's development journey and receive feedback from players to improve it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Currently aiming to have Crownfront in EA for about 18 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I currently have long-term plans to add multiplayer, multiple maps, multiple opponents and much more for the full version. The EA will have a single map with multiple unit types, resources types and building classes with just one AI opponent across the board from the player.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Crownfront is in a good, playable state. It just needs some more content for the first EA release and some polish.

The game will continue to be developed throughout Early Access, with further improvements to gameplay, AI, balance, content, and polish planned during the development period.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Crownfront will hold its Early Access price for the whole Early Access period. The price will increase at full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Development updates and roadmap changes go out through Steam announcements and the Crownfront discussion boards, which is where I'll be reading feedback. I also post progress on X, and run a Patreon with detailed development reports for people who want the deeper version.

Community feedback will help guide improvements to gameplay, balance, AI behavior, controls, usability, and future content throughout Early Access.”

About This Game

A War Across Your Floor

Crownfront plays out on a physical board - castles, farms, and armies laid out like pieces in front of you. Every kingdom you build is a thing you can see from edge to edge.

An RTS That Waits For You

The loop is the one you know from classic real-time strategy: gather, build, expand, attack. But it runs on turns. No build-order execution, no frantic clicking, no losing because someone moved a mouse faster. The pressure sits on your decisions, not your hands.

Every Turn Is a Trade

Wood or food? Another worker or another soldier? Farms take time to finish, and every unit you own eats. Overbuild your army and your kingdom starves. Overbuild your economy and the enemy reaches your walls first.

Build Your Kingdom

Castle - Your administrative heart and storage hub, and the only source of new workers. Requires a large amount of resources to build. Can be upgraded. Only one Castle can be upgraded.

Farm - Produces food once construction completes. Your army lives or dies on it.

Barracks - Trains the soldiers and archers that hold your ground.

University - Gives access to various important and powerful technologies/upgrades for your kingdom. More powerful units, buildings and buffs. Allows you to build the Workshop, a key building for the production of siege engines, powerful units that decimate your opponent's buildings.

Workshop - The production site for your siege engines, machines that decimate entire armies and kingdoms.

Raise and Command Armies

Recruit archers for range and soldiers for the front line. Depending on your progress will determine what units you have access to. Early game units are weak but cheaper while late game units are more expensive but more powerful.

Take the Enemy Castle

The goal is simple: destroy the rival kingdom's castle. Getting there is the entire game.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Simple, cartoonish violence where characters (units) are commanded by the player and engage in combat with one another. Simple animations for combat and basic blood VFX when units take damage. When destroyed, units play death animations.
