What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Discrepant will release in 2 stages - the first chapter in early access mode, and then whole game which includes all 4 chapters.

All four chapter are development complete and the game is ready for end to end play through, but we want to absolutely we get the game play, mood and quality for chapter 1 right! Then we will know how to tweak the remaining chapters. Getting the mix of elements in the game is a tricky endeavor, but once the recipe works, the rest will follow quickly.

We don't want to release too much and get it wrong. The game has great twists and we want that experience to reward early adopters without giving away the story before it is perfect. Getting valuable feedback about the plot and game play difficulty will help inspire and direct the game. We want this to game to surprise, frustrate, challenge and lure you into it's plot and characters, and captivate you. It is a high calling, and having early feedback is critical to allow us to make the game as good as we want it to be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently do not expect Early Access to last longer than 6 months. We expect to release a chapter every few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access will give the player the full Chapter 1, which is made up of 3 connected game levels, and several hours of game play. Every quarter we plan to release the next chapter of the game into Early Access which will allow us to develop the each chapter concept one at time, whilst focusing on polishing and refining the previous chapter. The final game is planned to be 4 Chapters, with at least 12 expansive game play areas. Those who buy Early Access will get the entire game at a discount.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Chapter 1 is plot complete, and playable from start to finish with each level already quite refined, and only missing cosmetic enhancements, extra sound effects and level clutter and debris. Some features will be more finalized than others, and we will be taking in player feedback throughout. Discrepant development timeline has been extended due to a lot of extra content we can't bear to leave out.... and being an inexperience developer.. well.. we'd rather take our time than rush and get it wrong. In a few years the legacy will remain, and we want that to be a good feeling of doing it right.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access pricing will be discounted from the Retail version in order to reward early adopting players. Specifics will be announced closer to the Early Access launch date.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are a tiny studio, with day jobs... so finding time to be accessible to the community is probably our biggest challenge.. more so than development! We'd welcome any enthusiastic early adopters who have time, interest and energy to get involved in the game, to reach out, and let us know if they can help with blog updates, forum management, and newsletter updates.

You will need to harass us a lot! :-)”

About This Game

Discrepant is a psychological sci-fi adventure game set in the town of New Haven. Roused by the rumblings of distant explosions and the sounds of a screaming man falling to his death right outside your front door, you awaken as Sebastian, an average man in a decidedly abnormal situation. In order to gain any kind of explanation for what's going on in your small town, you'll have to weave your way through disconcerting situations, uncomfortably dark environments, and deadly peril at every corner. Your wife Sue might be able to help you, but by the way she sounds, she's just as anxious and confused as you are.

Discrepant is a thought provoking first and third person game set in the genre of movies like Dark City, Donnie Darko and Thirteenth Floor.
