Know heaven and earth, and victory can be complete

From Jiayuguan in the west to the Yalu River in the east, the Ming frontier forms one continuous world.

The deserts and passes of Hexi give way to the forests and forts of Liaodong. The Great Wall, border towns and marching armies share the same world. Battles begin where armies meet, and the gains and losses along each defensive line remain part of the wider campaign.

The general is the support of the state

Win promotion and take command of larger armies and a wider frontier.

Your military appointment defines your posting and the forces under your command. As a garrison commander, manage your district, deploy its troops and answer for its defense. Promotion brings larger armies, broader responsibilities and a wider war to direct.

The force is fierce; the stroke is swift

Face massed assaults and hold a line under sustained pressure.

Later Jin Eight Banner armies gather and advance, crowding toward gates, walls and breaches. Organize the defense and commit reinforcements where the line is faltering. Watch soldiers clash amid volleys and concentrated hits, then survey the advancing formations, flanks and breakthroughs as you command the battle.

First make yourself secure against defeat

Build defenses and prepare your garrison before the enemy arrives.

Use the terrain to plan fortifications and assign troops and military supplies. After battle, repair damaged defenses and replenish your forces. The district you manage and the positions you prepare shape how much pressure your army can withstand.
