Jean's Survival is a tense day-night survival game where light is your only weapon. Scavenge dark, supply-rich buildings by day, then hole up at night and ration your light to burn back the infected without summoning the horde. Read the weather, trade with hidden survivors, and outlast the dark.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Jean's Survival is built on a finely tuned tension between light and darkness — how long the days should last, how scarce light sources should be, how aggressive the infected become once the sun goes down. These systems only reveal their true balance when real players push against them in ways I could never anticipate on my own. I chose Early Access because a survival game like this is shaped best out in the open, alongside the people who actually play it — every death, every close call, and every piece of feedback will directly guide how the game evolves toward its full release.

I'm also making Jean's Survival as a solo developer, and I want to be upfront about that. Working alone means I can move deliberately and shape the game around what players actually experience rather than what I assume in isolation. The game is fully funded and planned through to its 1.0 release; Early Access isn't about raising money to finish it, but about refining and expanding it with the community before I call it complete.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect Jean's Survival to remain in Early Access for roughly 12 months. This is an estimate rather than a promise — as a solo developer, I'd rather take the time to get the core systems right based on community feedback than rush the full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version aims to build significantly on the Early Access foundation. I plan to add more districts to explore, a wider variety of infected — including threats that challenge the light rules in new ways — additional survivors with their own requests and stories, more light tools and crafting options, new weather events, and a deeper progression and safehouse system. I'd also love to bring multiplayer to Jean's Survival, so players could survive the nights together — but as a solo developer, I honestly can't be certain yet whether that will be feasible. The exact scope will be shaped by feedback during Early Access, so this list may grow or shift as I learn what players want most.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version delivers the complete core loop: a full real-time day-night cycle, the light-based combat and stealth systems, scavenging through dark building interiors, the dynamic weather that can turn day into night, and barricaded survivors you can rescue and trade with. It is a fully playable survival experience from start to finish, though I will continue to add content and polish throughout Early Access.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. Jean's Survival enters Early Access at a lower introductory price, and I plan to gradually raise the price as I add new content and features and approach the full 1.0 release. Joining during Early Access means getting the game at its lowest price — and helping to shape its direction before launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is at the heart of how Jean's Survival will grow. I'll stay active on the Steam Community Hub and Discord, where players can report bugs, suggest features, and share their survival stories. I'll maintain a public roadmap, post regular development updates, and run polls on things like difficulty balance, new survivor requests, and which systems to prioritize next. As a one-person team, I read everything myself — the day-night cycle and light economy in particular will be tuned directly around how the community actually plays the game.”

About This Game

The dead fear the light. So they wait for yours to go out.

Jean's Survival is a survival game built on one brutal rule: a zombie's flesh burns the moment light touches it. By day, the infected retreat deep into the darkest corners of every building, fleeing the sun. By night, they flood the streets. You scavenge for supplies in the daylight and survive the dark by mastering the only weapon that matters — light.

☀️ Daytime — Safe Streets, Deadly Interiors

For thirty minutes of real time, the sun keeps the outdoors yours. The catch: everything you need is buried deep inside buildings, in basements and boarded-up rooms where no sunlight reaches and the infected lie waiting. Cut a path with your flashlight, tear away planks to let the daylight in, and push deeper into the dark. The further you go, the better the loot — and the greater the danger.

🌙 Nighttime — Stay Still and Ration Your Light

For ten minutes, the streets belong to the dead, and your only job is to outlast them. Light is a double-edged blade: the lantern that sears the zombies clawing at your door also drags every one of them on the block toward you. Burn what gets close, stay dark enough to go unnoticed, and hold the line until dawn.

🔦 Light Is Your Weapon

A flickering lighter only makes them flinch; a flare or a wall of flame sears them to the bone. Every light source is finite. Each battery, each drop of fuel, each flare is one more minute you get to keep breathing.

🌧️ The Weather Changes the Rules

Clear skies play by the rules. But when the clouds roll in, the sunlight weakens and the infected creep into shadows and alleys in broad daylight. On days of heavy rain or eclipse, daytime becomes just another night. Read the sky, and know when to abandon the run.

🏚️ You Are Not Alone

Other survivors are barricaded inside their homes. Answer their calls for help — clear the dead from their door, bring them what they need — and they will trade you the supplies that keep you alive. Earn their trust for better deals. Ignore them, and they may be gone by morning.

🛏️ Rest, or Raid?

Exhaustion builds, and you can only sleep somewhere safe — but those same safe daylight hours are perfect for scavenging. Spend your precious thirty minutes recovering, or risk one more trip into the dark? Every day, the choice is yours.
